Hi,

We are a cyber group that does a lot of volume of internet defamation work which is now touching almost every industry.

We believe that articles about what we know how to do would be very interesting to a lot of different trade magazines and articles could be done very factual, not salesy.

We would be interested in working with a freelancer or two who thought they could not only write but could also be successful at pitching the article concepts to trade magazine editors.

We are open to suggestions on how to structure that compensation to make it beneficial to all.

Is that something that Freelancers do or not?

thanks.

Err, not so much, no. What you're really talking about is advertorials.

If you want to hire a freelancer, you pay them, is generally how it works. If you want someone to pitch ideas to magazines and internet publications for you, you pay them to that, too. But if what you really want are thinly-disguised ads, written to make you look good, you buy advertorial space and pay someone to write some bang-up excellent copy for the piece.

You pay the publications for space in their pages, and their name involvement, you pay the freelancers for their time and their work, and that's how the arrangement is structured to be "beneficial to all."

Thanks for reply. Honestly, not so much on Advertisement. Some truly factual stuff that be done that can be done independent of use.... then just do a byline type deal.

However, is there people that are good at pitching article concepts to trade magazines and if so, where do I look for them?

If you have certain trade pubs in mind, you might try sending them regular press releases on new developments in your industry. You can also send them to writers who seem to be covering your field (look for their bylines in the trade pubs).

Depending on your budget, you can write the press releases yourself or hire a professional writer to do them.

However, you can't hire a writer to query for you and then write the story. It's a journalistic conflict of interest.

For advertorials, contact the pub's advertising folks. They will usually assign a copywriter to write the story for you. Note that this whole process is pricey -- at least as expensive as buying ad space.
