Baen's Bar

I've just popped over to Baen's Bar http://bar.baen.com/ and posted a story (Jaguar Gold) for criticism in their Universal Slush thread. Has anyone else tried this? Were the comments useful?

PS It's not that I don't find the people here insightful, helpful, delightful, etc re critiquing, but the Bar offers a chance of publication to new writers, like me :) as well as (I assume) a captive group of sci fi freaks.

I just checked it out. The format is not as sophisticated as AW, and while there are hundreds of views on many of the submissions, most have no replies. So not very useful, it seems.

I just got a message from Baen's Bar saying pretty much the story lacks a plot. Now, this could be true - at the moment I'm still in my defend-the-baby mode - but for sure the response was fast.

And, just to say I'm not completely obsessive, I don't normally sit on the Net waiting for responses, but today's headache is kinda getting in the way of real work.

Something odd. By doing a search, I found the comments on your piece, but they aren't attached to the piece itself...and now the board stopped working for me, so I can learn no more.

I checked out Baen's Bar, but I really did not like it. It seemed really unorganized and not really run very well. One place that I did finde useful was Zoetrope's Virtual Studio.

I don't want to take Julie's Satan status away from her ... but Baen's Bar is confusing and from what I can see stories and comments are meant to be separate. And yeah, the site didn't like me either - so slow.
