Let It Ride or Light A Fire Under An Editor?

Hi.

An editor has been holding one of my children's pix book stories under consideration since February. She replied to the first story I sent in one weeks time with a personally hand written rejection, sent me her business card and praised the rejected story but said it wasn't exactly right for their company but I should send another story.

I did. Never heard another thing. That was in Feb. In June I sent her a letter with a SASP asking her if she got the second story and where it was at in the process.

She replied immediately within one week and on the postcard told me she got backlogged but she had my second story and she couldn't give me an answer on my 2nd story until after fall started. However I don't know if I'm supposed to contact her again or wait for her to contact me?

Now the year's almost over with and I still haven't got a yes or no on the second story. This would be my first book published if she buys it so I don't want to rock the boat and I have other stories I'm marketing elsewhere but I'm wondering if I should contact her again? Seems like the ball is in her court and the next communication should be on her end?

I think enough time has gone by that it is appropriate to contact her. After all, if she doesn't want the story, you want to be free to try to place it elsewhere.

I agree with Tish, and since your first method of contact was used by her (SASP postcard), I'd do the same again.

Thanks for the advice and since you both agree on what I should do then I'm going to go ahead and send her another note inquiring about the status of my manuscript and a SASP. Pray for me!
