This site seems like a great place to continue my apprenticeship in writing. An apprenticeship that never ends of course :)

I'm twenty years old and live in the UK. I work in a library and have recently started writing again. I used to love writing short stories as a child and regularly had my talents lauded by various English teachers throughout school.

But I was never the academic type and was content to coast along and not work hard enough, so as a result I have never reached my potential.

That is about to change. For the first time I'm taking writing seriously.

I love the work of Stephen King and various horror writers. I enjoy reading other genres too, fantasy, historical and crime etc etc.

I'm currently working on a few short stories and a novella. All in various stages of completion. I keep being told I should stick to one project as a time, seems good advice, but taking it isn't coming easy.

I also have a few rough novel outlines somewhere on my laptop too.

The ultimate dream is to be able to sustain a living and support my girlfriend and future children through writing.

Anyway, that's enough from me for now.

A pleasure to meet you all.

P.S - Yes, my user-name is a nod to the late great Bill Hicks :)

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the 'forum jump' you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. After you post 50 posts you can use the SYW areas to get help there. The password for some of the areas is…..vista. A word to the wise, it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

I don't post too much in the horror section (or much at all, really) but there's a wealth of information to be had by browsing through it. Lots of folks take their passion seriously, and it shows by how much people are willing to help - if Horror is your thing, I highly recommend introducing yourself there and saying hello!

*waves excitedly* I'm a dark fantasy writer myself, which is not a far slide from horror. I'm also a bit of a scaredy cat and I know the best way to write a genre is to read a genre, so I'm working on it.

Good luck to you!
