Hi all-- I've got a MacBook Pro and can't figure out how to delete Pages files. I can delete the content, but that leaves me with an empty page taking up space. I've tried renaming the page-- which gives me a new page-- but the old one is still there.

Please-- what is the secret for deleting the files themselves? Thanks!

I don't quite understand what you mean. Pages on the Mac doesn't manage its own documents like the iPad version. What do you mean by files? How are they "in" Pages?

Okay, there are two ways you can do this.

1. Click on Finder — the little blue happy face in your Dock. If this doesn't bring up a new Finder window, go to File->New Finder Window. If you know where you saved your file, navigate to it from here. (When you saved it, it should say "Where: ____" at the top of the save dialog. It would probably be somewhere in your "Documents" folder (you can see this option on the left pane). If you happen to be on Lion, click on "All My Files" on the left pane of the Finder window and find it here. When you find it, highlight it and either drag it to the Trash can on your Dock, or hit Cmd+Delete.

2. Click the magnifying glass on the top right corner of your menu bar. Do you remember what the file's name is? Type it in and choose "Show all in Finder." Scroll down until you find the right file. Highlight it and click the space bar to preview it and make sure it's the right one. Then drag it to the Trash can on your Dock or hit Cmd+Delete.

When you save a new document, take note of what it says in the "Where" box on the save dialog, so you know where to find it in the file system. For now, iTunes and iPhoto are the only Apple Mac apps that manage their own files for you.

Got it. Found it. Deleted it. Thanks kuwi! :)

My problem is I still think in Windows. <sigh>

Rather ironically, the problem is you were actually thinking the iPad way.

Oh, that is ironic. :e2faint:

Alas, it doesn't appear to have done me much good.

Ruth are you the kind of person who learns from following along with a book?

I can recommend some really good easy to understand English books about Pages and the Mac in general.
