I am writing a book for a friend about his life and I plan to add a chapter about how we met. I am writing in "first" person singular since my friend is telling his story. My question is, "is it unusal for a writer to write about him/herself in a book about someone else?" So, my friend talks in the chapter about me and describes me, but I use my real name instead of a fake one. Thanks

Well, since you're "becoming" your friend in order to write his story, you aren't writing about "yourself," you're writing about your friend. So is it unusual? Only if you try to describe it.
