Thoughts!

1) It looks grimmer and more emo-ey than the first Spiderman run with Raimi. This is a sad for me, because...well, I really liked how bright, colorful and fun loving the Raimi version was. Maybe this is because I have a huge soft spot for the silliness of the silver age and a HUGE disdain for the EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEME hardcoreness of the dark ages (read 90s) that anything harkening back to a slightly more goofy time makes me smile.

2) Peter has mechanical webshooters, I think this time.

3) This might be wrong...but I'm guessing that - based off the references to secrets, knowing who one is, and the fact that this is clearly Gwen Stacy...I'm just going to lay out a big fat 100 buck bet right here that the plot is going to be based off the Clone Saga.

I really...really hope I'm wrong about that.

Cause the only thing worse than basing a movie on the Clone Saga would be basing a movie on One More Day.

Or worse...

Both!

I just want Carnage in it :( And I want the guy that played Rorschach to play Carnage/Cletus Kassidy. Is that so wrong?

Also, it has the guy from The Social Network as Spider-Man. Probably won't be seeing this, despite Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Sally Field and Emma Stone.

Also, no Jameson? And Proto-Goblin and The Lizard? Really? The only saving grace for this film for me is the addition of Steve Kloves on the writing team. Spider-Man 2 was pretty good, but Spider-Man 3 was awful, so Sargent definitely needs someone to get him back on track. I never saw (500) Days of Summer, so I have nothing to say about Marc Webb. I heard good things about that film though.

No. Carnage would be an amazing villain. It'll never happen though.

And Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach) was awesome as George Noyce. He's going to be in the Dark Shadows movie with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.

ETA: Just watched the trailer. Meh. Not seeing it.

Yeah, not horribly impressed by this. The ending of the trailer is a video game, basically. And the Raimi ones were fun - well not the 3rd one, but I don't blame Raimi for that.

I was not impressed with the so-called spidey cam.

And the thought of a darker Spidey does not please.

That trailer makes it look like this is going to be Spider-Man by way of Batman. No. Absolutely no. He's SPIDEY, for dog's sake! There's supposed to be at least SOME humor. And puns. A buncha puns. Emo-Man doesn't look like he'd know what a pun is if it nipped him in the spider-hiney.

And...seriously? What's up with the mysterious Parker Parents? Was any of that ever in the comics? I haven't read seriously since the 1990s or so -- basically, the Time That Comics Went Dark Because Dark Is Cool, so maybe that's legit. But it doesn't feel right.

Yeah, I think it had been established in the 80's at least the Peter's parents were agents of SHIEILD or some such.

I didn't love the Raimi Spidey, but this looks worse.

They were robots. Or clones. Having noted that, the mid-90's Spidey comics were a low point, and I barely touched them.

From all the stories circulating about the reboot, I think I'm gonna pass on the film as well.

My thoughts:

First of all, Andrew Garfield's hair needs its own zip code. Seriously, anytime he was on screen in The Social Network I couldn't look at anything else.

Now that we got that out of the way. I will give this a shot for a few reasons. In the comics Peter Parker was dark, morose, and mopey. Once he was in the costume, he was hilarious. There's no footage of Spidey yet aside from the one reflection. I am hoping that once in costume he can yuck it up. This was something I felt was lacking in the Raimi movies. Aside from the odd not-funny quip here and there, there was no humor.

Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. 'Nuff said.

Props for the return of mechanical webshooters.

I wondered as well why they were rebooting a film so recently but my thoughts were this. Spider-Man 3, in my personal opinion, was an unqualified train wreck. I swear, during the musical number I'm surprised the fury burning in my eyes didn't burn the theater down. If the same team was attached to a new one I would not go see it. I With a new interpretation, I am willing to give it a shot.

Just my 2 cents

Who can you blame for "Emo-Peter Parker" and those puke worthy Mary Jane musical interludes if not Raimi?

As for The Amazing Spider-Man trailer...it's no The Dark Knight Rises that's for sure.

It just has a less porny title. :drool

Oh, and Emma Stone as Gwen is an definite upgrade over Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane. Let's just hope she doesn't spend the next three films screaming in the clutches of the bad guy as Peter keeps pulling off his mask in public.

How about Alvin Sargent?

I'm 28. Am I supposed to know who Emma Stone is? Because I don't. I remember a time when TALENT led to fame, not just looking pretty and doing much of nothing...

See Emma Stone in Zombieland and Easy A to see that she is talented as well as gorgeous.

She's actually pretty damned talented. She's often the only good part of the movies she's in (though I loved Zombieland and Easy A).

I completely agree. Spider-Man always makes puns and one liners while fighting people. It's what makes him such a unique hero. That's one of the reasons people really like Spider Man.

As a side note, Third Person, they really do need to put Carnage in a movie. He is one of the best Spider Man villains to date. Actually, they should just make a movie version of Spider Man: Maximum Carnage.

There was a moment or two in the comics when they went dark and angsty (notably Kraven's Last Hunt, and a Lizard tale done by McFarlane), but the comedy and brightness always conquered in the end. I'm not seeing a hint of comedy and brightness...

One thing I've learned over the years is this simple rule:

Never base an entire movie from a trailer!

Because trailers are always misleading. They can always make a movie look better or worse than they actually are.

I have faith in garfield. he's a great actor (The Social Network, Never Let Me Go, Boy A...) The director, Marc Webb, was responsible for 500 Days of Summer, which I really enjoyed. Granted, I know virtually zero about the spiderman mythos, but as a movie that stands on its own, I think it could be quite good. Trailer looks decent, but as mentioned by another poster, trailers can be (for good or for worse) misleading.

If enough people whose reviews I generally agree with tell me it's great, I'll watch it when it's online. I have to be extremely excited about a movie to pay 12 bucks to see it, and this ain't doin' it for me.

I was very doubtful about the movie, but after that trailer, I have to admit, it looks kinda good. This is closer to the Peter Parker in my mind that Tobi M..
