View Full Version : Oddity when following links out of AW

Something curious: twice today I've clicked on a link leading out of an AW forum thread and ended up on a backdated version of the AW homepage... Is it just me??
The first time it was a link out to YouTube from the 'best movie monologues' thread. The second, just now, was the link out to the Piriform website from the OP in this thread (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=218779); on clicking it, I arrived here (http://absolutewrite.com/2010/02/10/158/)!
On both occasions, clicking the link a second time works correctly. Very strange!
Incidentally, each of the two incidents occurred on different computers with a completely different internet connection. Both machines were using Firefox 5 though.

There's nothing odd about either link, and I can't duplicate the experience, which makes me think that there's something local on your end.
Is this the only site you see this odd re-direct?
I'd try
Logging off AW (make sure you know your password)
Emptying your browser cache
Deleting AW cookies
Quit your browser; completely shut down the browser, or even better restart your computer)
Log back in.

I've checked the Piriform link on the AW page you linked. For me, it goes to Piriform every time.

I can't duplicate it myself now either, but yes, this is the only site its happened on. But only today =)
I'll have a quick hunt around for links and see if I can trigger it again, then try your cleanup tips. I'll post back if it ever happens again!

I do not understand Mr. Bigglesworth.
Why would you wish to leave?

If it helps any a similar situation has happened to me too. Though it was on a different page, I tried to click a link to get out of AW and it just took me to a different AW page. Clicked it again and it finally took me where I needed to go. Good to know I wasn't going crazy.
Shhhh.... don't let them hear you...

Similar issues here - this has been happening to me for every single link, regardless of destination, and the link always works the second time I click on it.

I've had it happen too. It seems to be when the outside link takes too long to connect. Just close that tab, and try again.

Which browsers are you using, folks?

This happened to me on Firefox 3.x a lot, but I don't think I've seen it since I updated.
If it does happen, copying and pasting the link works every time.

Firefox 5.0, though it hasn't happened in awhile, so maybe it was one of the older Firefox.
Right clicking and opening in another tab or window also helps.

Happens to me quite often.
Second try usually gets it right.
