Hello, my name's Jarrod and I'm a serial restarter.

I started writing in high school many (to me) years ago. Life happened for a while, though, and I quit. But, eight or nine years later, I had the opportunity to quit my job and go back to school. Of course, less than a year afterward the economy crapped out and the field I wanted to go into has become darn near impossible in which to find a job. Oops! Oh well, still the right decision.

I was a history major in college, and my minor was in English. I decided I would do my minor in the creative writing department because I felt I was doing enough forced reading for my major - I wanted to do some output to relieve the stress from all the input. It was then I rediscovered my first real love.

Everything I do seems to have a humorous bent to it. Apparently, I can't turn that part of myself off. I hear it's hard to write humor and I should appreciate that, but, for me, it's harder to write to completion.

I live in north Texas, and the only thing I've ever had published was a piece of creative nonfiction in college for the literary journal. I'm pretty sure that doesn't count, though.

My real love is science fiction and fantasy stuff, although lately I've started reading old westerns to mine for ideas.

Even though I hate using computers and other assorted technologies, (I know, odd for someone who enjoys writing sci-fi), my prized possession is the Kindle my parents gave me for my last birthday several weeks back. I felt dirty and like I was betraying a part of myself when I started reading my first book on it, but I'll be damned if it isn't the coolest little thing on the planet. I still hate that I'm forced by society to have a cellphone, though. Boo, technology!

I also tend to go through my own posts on anything and correct errors in my grammar.

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the ‘forum jump’ you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. Most of the SYW areas require the password of ….vista. A word to the wise, (50 posts), it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Hello there Jarrod, and welcome to AW. I have a Kindle since last year Easter (present to myself) and absolutely love it! I already have more than 100 books on it. It's so easy to take along, on the train, on the plane, to sit on the terrace, ...

Welcome, Jarrod! If you haven't found it already, you should check out some Steampunk stuff. I just found it recently...pretty cool, in my opinion. Think old Victorian meets today's technology...It might help you deal with technology a little better. :)

I don't like popcorn at all - it always gets stuck in my teeth.

I like some steampunk stuff. I've read Cherie Priest's Boneshaker and Dreadnought and found them both quite enjoyable.

Oh, well, you know, it's possible to rebel - I don't have a cell phone. At some cost, it is true - many people are irritated. But then, I'd be irritated if I had one.

Humor writing...well, that's good for some, I suppose. I couldn't do it - I find I'm deadly serious at every moment, in my life. Only yesterday I sat moodily staring ahead of me, as someone slipped on a banana peel and fell rather comically. Well, theoretically it was comical. I found myself being deadly serious, still. It's not that I was worried about the guy. I didn't try to help him, or anything. It just...didn't move me.

I wish someone could explain the workings of humor, to me. Oh well.
