Hi people!
I'm a young guy from Brazil, so i'm sorry for the accent and the inappropriate use of prepositions... in fact i'd be grateful to anyone who would correct me in that manner. Learning is always good.
Sometime ago i had an idea for a romance and i thought i should just sit down and write it. I started and soon i came up with a lot of doubts, and that's what has brought me here.
Somedays ago i figured out that i wanted to be a writter for real. I've never really wrote anything, in the sense of having a complete book and publishing it, but i love to create and live histories. And i'd like to show other people the histories that fly around in my mind.
Well, I'm reading Stephen King's "On Writing", and one of the first things he says, is that writing is something that must be taken seriously. So well, here I am, trying to learn the basics before I start.
I'm interested in writing/reading sci-fi and medieval fantasy. Actually i'd love to create something in a post-apocaliptic world.
So, i'll make some questions... if they've already been answered somewhere else, I apologize, but here i go:
1 - I've been reading some of the threads, and some of them have really huge lists of books, like this one http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126838 and i got a little intimidated by it... So, should i really read so many books before i start to write something?
It's not like i haven't already read my own list of books(sure, not big as this one, but it's still something).
2 - someone could suggest me a good software to write? I like to write in the computer, so i'd just like to know which software you use.
Well, Thank you and sorry for the long introduction.
