I came across this site as I was looking for more information on a specific agent I'm interested in submitting to. I'm extremely new in the writing arena and was looking for resources.

My name is Heather, I'm 30 years old and only just completed my first manuscript. I've always had an interest in writing but only felt a strong pull to write about a year ago. At the start of the year I sat down to begin working on my first manuscript and completed it in late May.

I did my research, selected the agent carefully, sent off my query, and then realized only about an hour after I'd hit the "send" button that I'd made a quite embarrassing mistake in my letter. Oops.

I don't expect to be hearing back from that agency, which is a shame as it was my first pick. But I'm new. Lesson learned. So I started researching other agents and came across a discussion about them here on the forum

Please bear with me as I'm very new to this field and trying to digest the wealth of information available. Also, if there are any major typos in my posts, my laptop very recently decided to start playing tricks and randomly insert the cursor (as I type unaware) wherever it deems a typo would be most comical. :\

Heather,

Hello, I'm a newbie as well, and I wanted to take minute to say hello. Congratulations on entering the publishing world, that's quite an accomplishment.

May I ask what your book is about? I'm curious. :)

Best wishes and happy writing,
Jessie

Welcome from another newbie! From the exploring I've done, I'm sure you'll find plenty of answers here. I'm also preparing to submit query letters to agents - exciting and scary! Good luck to you!

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the ‘forum jump’ you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. Most of the SYW areas require the password of ….vista. A word to the wise, (50 posts), it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Heather, I share your pain. My laptop exhibits the unfortunate tendency of randomly resetting my cursor to an arbitrary point in an earlier paragraph. The meaningless blather which results (until I notice the cursor's new position) makes the meaningless blather I typically write seem like Shakespeare in comparison.

Hello and welcome,

I have to say though - you're not alone. I too have done some stupid things like that and well, lets just say that that was over 2 years ago. Hopefully I'll have forgotten and I'll be able to sneak in the door.. once I'm truly ready to submit my ms. We do learn from our mistakes. Best of luck.

Thank you for the warm welcome. :)

My completed manuscript is an 800-word picture book. I know that's pushing the limit on word-count for the format but I'm hoping it won't be a problem. It reads as though it's about 600 words. If it's good enough to garner representation, I'm sure they'll be more editing to do, but it's as tight as I can get it.

The manuscript I hope to be starting in the next 2-3 days is a futuristic (slightly dystopian) YA novel.

Welcome to those of you who are new as well. :)
