I have a number of scenes which I could start my novel with. Basically it is about this prophecy and how it affects the four kids it was about. These are my options...

1) Start with the prophecy being made and the demise of the witches who made it. This introduces a character that wouldnt be mentioned til MUCH later but is still a major part in their story and a clue to another character's (who we also dont see for ages) past. It isnt essential to put it here but it explains what happens to the main characters later on.

2) A typical day/introduction of the children (boring, I know but has to be done sometime)

3) A bit about the prophecy made 1000 years ago that runs parrelel with the new prophecy.

4) Something with one of the children that we won't meet otherwise till the next book. The death of his mother perhaps? (She was killed because of the prophecy)

If there is any one that jumps out at you or any more info you need before you can decide please let me know!

I wouldn't worry about, although its usually a good idea to begin mid-scene to pull the reader straight into the story. Chances are you'll change everything you write once you've got the first draft nailed, only then will you know if scenes are in the right place. It's one of the reasons I try not to plan in too much detail. I have an idea of where I want to go, a very basic plot structure and a possible ending, but the more you plan, the more difficulties you face when the story wanders off in its own direction.
