Does anyone have a list of Small Press / Indie Publishers? I can't seem to find one on AW, but it feels like there should be one lurking somewhere. Also, are small presses synonymous with epubs? Or combo of epublishing / print publishing? THANKS!

EDITED: Forgot to add, I know about the INDEX TO AGENTS, PUBLISHERS, AND OTHERS thread. Just looking for feedback from others.

There are literally thousands, some rather better than others. I think you might be better off in one of the genre forums, since that'll narrow it down a bit.

Small press is exactly what it says on the tin. It's a small press, run by a small group of people, that puts out a (relatively) small number of books. Those books can be e or print. They can be POD or offset. Good small presses tend to focus on a niche in order to maximise their impact (and take advantage of the fact that it wouldn't be cost effective for large presses to target every single audience)

Thanks! I think that's part of my problem, there appear to be thousands and I'm looking for a way to scale them down. I write urban fantasy / paranormal romance. Anyone have a small press they like best? Positive/negative experiences?

Might I suggest you check and see if there are any genre conventions in your neck of the woods? Or, go online and check out the participant lists of some genre conventions. You'll find that most authors are darned proud to name their publishers. The come back here to the Index to check out those publishers.

In other words, find writers who write the kind of material you want to publish. Find out who their publishers are. Go to the bookstores. Some small presses DO have bookstore distribution. And while you're at it, why not query a few of the big guys? Nothing wrong with starting at the top.

My best advice is to do your research before subbing to any press. A quick search here on AW Bewares will most likely yield results.

A list of all small presses wouldn't get you very far. There are lists for more specific genre areas.
