Can anyone recommend a writing class in the Portland - Beaverton area. I tried a PCC evening class but it was really bad. I've also tried the Willamette writers classes but they are more for the "HOW" to create a story.

I'm looking for something that deals with editing your work after the first draft. The nuts and bolts of producing a clean piece of fiction.

Thanks

I looked at the PSU website and found these in the English/Writing section:

Wr 323 - Writing as Critical Inquiry
Course Description: A writing course for upper-division students, which offers sophisticated approaches to writing and reading. Students enhance critical thinking abilities by reading and writing challenging material, refine their rhetorical strategies, practice writing processes with special attention to revision and style, and write and read in a variety of genres. Includes formal and informal writing, sharing writing with other students, and preparing a final portfolio of work.

Wr 512 - Advanced Fiction Writing
Course Description: Further refines technical skills by demanding longer and more ambitious works of fiction by the advanced writer. Students will have an opportunity to do research and can expect to confront a variety of technical problems emerging from class discussion.

Wr 461/561 - Book Editing
Course Description: Provides a comprehensive course in professional book editing, including editorial management, acquisitions editing, substantive/developmental editing, and copyediting. Issues specific to both fiction and nonfiction books will be covered.

Does any of those sound like what you're looking for? I'd like to find one, too, but on the eastside. My job schedule prevents me from going to the WW meetings and many of the classes.

Or maybe there's something at the WW conference this year? Although that's several months away, still.

Have you looked at the Attic? They have tons of classes in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, etc. www.atticinstitute.com

Wow, those classes look kinda expensive. I hadn't heard of them before. Hmm. I'm going to see if anyone I know has heard of them.
