Hello! My name is Jessica and I just joined yesterday after intending to for a very long time. This forum seems like a really great online resource for writers of all kinds.
As a quick introduction, I've always enjoyed writing fiction and have worked on various projects on and off, but I'm currently working fairly seriously on a young adult novel. I wrote the first draft of this particular story just over four years ago, and am to the point where I really want to get it done and move onto something else. I really envy people who can write fast, because I find that the book is only really starting to make sense to me now that I'm almost done with it.
I suppose I could be considered a "professional" writer in the sense that I write for money every single day, but not in a creative capacity - my job is to translate Japanese documents into English, so I have seen my writing published in a wide variety of places but almost never attributed to me. That's okay, though, because I find this type of writing really interesting and personally satisfying as well.
I also live in Tokyo, Japan, so I have no friends in the immediate vicinity who are interested in discussing the craft of writing (in English) in any detail. For that reason I'm really looking forward to participating in this community in the future!
