I'm currently working on the first and second book for a young adults adventure series. I've been working on this in some form since I was five years old, and hope to incorporate it into my future career as well. Basically, I hope to create a franchise. That may sound like some big plans for a nobody, but it leads into my question:

The point of my book, besides entertainment, is to open children's eyes to a particular subject. Besides having the novels, I want to also write a nonfiction book to go with each story that still incorporates my main character. I'm thinking something along the lines of the books on quidditch (sp?) that accompany the Harry Potter books, or a makeup/fashion guide "hosted" by Lizzie Maguire.

Do I include anywhere in a query that the novels are accompanied by their nonfiction companions? Do I turn both manuscripts in together? I want the agent/publisher to know that if (s)he likes my book and my characters, and he thinks audiences will too, there is more where it came from.

Hopefully, my question can be understood. I'm working on about two hours sleep right now, lol, added to the fact that I am new to this process in the first place.

Thanks in advance!

Focus on the novel. If you sell and the book becomes a hit, then you can talk about tie-ins (which your other non-fiction books are). But not now. Do you think anyone would care if there's a book on quidditch (or, as a matter of fact, there are 6 more books to come) if the first Harry Potter book doesn't sell? And when the book becomes a best seller, you'll be sure someone would be talking about tie-ins even if you don't want to.

In my novel, my protagonist is writing a children's book. I thought about doing the book as a tie-in. I thought it would be very neat. But eventually, I realized, no one would care unless my novel becomes a smash hit. I could have written the children's book and market it separately, too, if that's what I wanted to do. But as tie-ins, it doesn't really make sense at this point.
