Hello all -- I'm looking forward to dipping my toes into the community, and feeling my way around all that AW has to offer.
I first came across AW when I realized that I was receiving conflicting information from various sources about an agent -- with an admirable client list -- who'd expressed interest in my (unfinished) novel. So after searching for her on the Internet, I came across a thread on AW about other people's experiences with said agent, which I found helpful -- and I'll probably throw my voice in with the chorus, in later discussions -- but I realized that this space was probably a good place for me to try and expand my horizons a bit, as I'd no longer consider myself a newbie to writing, but do consider myself a newbie to beginning to think beyond the work. And, of course, my life will be devoted to the work, and I hope to continue to improve as the years go by.
I'm an MFA graduate from the University of Michigan, and have been working on growing my (embarrassing) masters thesis from an overly "voicey" 120-paged bit to a more sophisticated first draft of an entire novel. After much agonizing and gnashing of teeth, I feel that I'm nearly halfway through the first draft... and then, of course, comes the fun of revision, and more revision, and editing, polishing, etc. All of which I'm looking forward to. Really!
I live in Northern California with my partner, enjoy nightcaps (scotch and Jameson being perennial favorites), love hyacinths and sweet peas, and have a fondness for dogs.
Thanks for letting me into your space, & I look forward to exploring.
