Newbie Intro

Howdy,

My name's Sharpshooter, 'cause that's what I am when I'm not writing or working.
I'm a retired University Prof (scientist type) so I have lots of refereed papers, and book chapters behind me, but trying to get non-fiction or fiction published is another matter.

I have a question, but don't know whether the Newbie Forum is the place for it. I do have a non-fiction book about ready and I'm looking for an agent; hence trying to write the best book proposal I can. I have found a book that is a competitor, if I can get mine published, and I'm trying to find out how the competing book's sales are. Does anyone have an idea how to get this information?

Welcome.

There has been some threads in the past about getting the information you're looking for (without having to pay for it). You might do a search on AW for "publishing data" or "book sales ranks" or similar terms.

Agent Query is a good place to start your search for an agent. the AAR is another good resource. Perhaps you can post your question about books sales here at AW in Roundtable.

Agent Query is a great place to look for agents and see who represents what...
you should look at all the forums for your other questions - there's a lot of advice to be had around here.
