The can is a "taller, sassier" version of the traditional can that the company says was made in "celebration of beautiful, confident women." Some say Pepsi's approach only reinforces dangerous stereotypes about women and body image.

[snip]

Critics say it is nothing to celebrate.

Brand experts praised the new design but say the company may be a bit off on its sales pitch that skinny is better. The National Eating Disorders Association said it takes offense to the can and said the company's comments are both "thoughtless and irresponsible."

Is there anything in America that won't offend some group?

oh, eyeroll.

It's a can, for Pete's sake. Coke have had them for ages.

That being said, you would have thought their marketing department would have handled it better.
I would have made the elegant, slim design comments, minus the 'based on a confident, sexy woman' comment. I mean, really. It's not even remotely womanly, it's straight up and down.

Just sayin'.

I can't recall, but didn't Pepsi either acquire or start up an energy drink brand? It'll be interesting to see if these cans are the same size and shape as those.

Personally, I think someone in the marketing department just showed up to work hung over the day they were coming up with this marketing plan...

If it doesn't properly* fit into the cup holder in my car, I won't bother.

*It's not allowed to be either so fat that it won't fit all the way down into the cradle, or so skinny that it will tip over every time I turn a street corner.

Agorism FTW!
Well, people need something to outraged about since all the wars have ended, government is finally delivering on all its promises, the economy has stabilized, and there's nobody being oppressed or starved anywhere in the world. You can't expect an educated and well-informed populace to just sit around on their asses staring at the boob tube all the time.

Does it hold the same 12 oz. that the fat can did? If not, it's a sneaky way to sell less for the same - or more... an all to prevalent tactic these days.

They've got 'Amp' energy drink, Aston. And it came under fire last October for its ad campaign, too. 'Amp up before you score' with an iPhone application to help guys stack rank and categorize women, help with pick-up lines, and -best of all- log your outcome on a 'Brag List'.

Yeah, they got some great crap there, don't they?

This is some bullshit. Not gonna defend it. Sorry.

I'm waiting for the taller, thinner, more elegant beer keg.

Michelob Ultra uses those cans too. So does Red Bull. What's the point?

Wow, people must be really bored to get outraged over something like this.

I don't care that they have a tall thin can.

It does bother me that they claim it's a "celebration of beautiful confident women."

Not me. I don't give a rat's arse what Pepsi thinks will sell cans of their products. Tall and thin isn't a new standard they just pulled out of the air.

I have more pressing matters to worry about.

Well, good for you. Aparently I am just petty.

Ah, no. She just has a different opinion. Just like you have yours.

I have more pressing matters to worry about.

Knowing a bit about Tiny's life from what she has posted on AW, this is a very true comment.

Or I refuse to let some company get a rise out of me over a marketing scheme. The media has been pushing the concept of thin and tall equaling beauty for years. This isn't new or shocking and I got over it in my 20's when I wasn't growing any taller than 5'1".
