Let me first start off by saying hello and hoping everyone here is well.
I'm Adam.
Well, I guess I should just get to it then, eh? By trade I'm a copy editor and worked in newspapers for a good five years after college until lay-offs landed heavily. That was a long 18 months ago. But not all is lost!
Over this time, I've finally found the fortitude to put pen to paper (or, I suppose, finger to keyboard) and begin writing in earnest. The result is I've completed manuscripts for two novels of a planned trilogy, the realization of ideas that have been floating around in my head since my early college days. Although I've been writing mostly for my own reasons, I have to say the notion that I could walk into a bookstore one day and see a book with my name on the cover sitting on the shelf is proving rather alluring, as I'm sure many of you can sympathize with.
All this is to say, I'm curious about where I might go from here. I know the next step is likely to find an agent, but I have little idea how to do that. In my little bit of online research, I heard this forum mentioned repeatedly and decided to investigate. I'm liking what I'm seeing so far!
Perusing the forums a little, I believe my work is really ready for a beta-reader/editor. So far, the only person to have read my work is, well, me, haha. I feel I really need that outside perspective before I begin to seriously consider sending it out. So I'm here to get a little feedback on my work if, possible, but also to meet some fellow authors/authors-in-the-making and maybe see if I could be that outside perspective for someone else. I certainly have the time now while job hunting, haha.
About the trilogy, if anyone is interested: It's fantasy/adventure. It's about a world with three different races, each blessed with different types of magic/abilities. This world comes under attack, and we see individuals from each of the three races come together to stop the evil. The first book in particular examines how each of these main characters has lost something important to them and how they react, how far they are pushed. There are also questions about the nature of religion and divinity, right and wrong, duty and loyalty. I'd be happy to offer up more details if anyone is interested.
So, yeah. Hi everyone! What are you working on? I'd love to hear about your projects, too.
