Let me first start off by saying hello and hoping everyone here is well.

I'm Adam.

Well, I guess I should just get to it then, eh? By trade I'm a copy editor and worked in newspapers for a good five years after college until lay-offs landed heavily. That was a long 18 months ago. But not all is lost!

Over this time, I've finally found the fortitude to put pen to paper (or, I suppose, finger to keyboard) and begin writing in earnest. The result is I've completed manuscripts for two novels of a planned trilogy, the realization of ideas that have been floating around in my head since my early college days. Although I've been writing mostly for my own reasons, I have to say the notion that I could walk into a bookstore one day and see a book with my name on the cover sitting on the shelf is proving rather alluring, as I'm sure many of you can sympathize with.

All this is to say, I'm curious about where I might go from here. I know the next step is likely to find an agent, but I have little idea how to do that. In my little bit of online research, I heard this forum mentioned repeatedly and decided to investigate. I'm liking what I'm seeing so far!

Perusing the forums a little, I believe my work is really ready for a beta-reader/editor. So far, the only person to have read my work is, well, me, haha. I feel I really need that outside perspective before I begin to seriously consider sending it out. So I'm here to get a little feedback on my work if, possible, but also to meet some fellow authors/authors-in-the-making and maybe see if I could be that outside perspective for someone else. I certainly have the time now while job hunting, haha.

About the trilogy, if anyone is interested: It's fantasy/adventure. It's about a world with three different races, each blessed with different types of magic/abilities. This world comes under attack, and we see individuals from each of the three races come together to stop the evil. The first book in particular examines how each of these main characters has lost something important to them and how they react, how far they are pushed. There are also questions about the nature of religion and divinity, right and wrong, duty and loyalty. I'd be happy to offer up more details if anyone is interested.

So, yeah. Hi everyone! What are you working on? I'd love to hear about your projects, too.

Welcome Adam, nice introduction.

It seems that everyone here is working on one project or another, so we have that in common.

I hope your project reads well and advances generously!

Sounds like my kind of trilogy! Let me know when it finally gets published so I can check it out.

I'm currently working on a fantasy novel (or novels if it gets broken up) dealing with coping with loss, the meaning of friendship, and human nature - although what story isn't about human nature?

Glad to have you here. :)

Hiya, Adam. You're cordially invited to make yourself at home on the board of the genre(s) of your choice, plus the fun threads of Office Party, racking up the requisite 50 posts to slap that first chapter up at the appropriate Share Your Work board on a courageous day.

(Ray's House of Love is always hiring towel boys to work the hot tub area.)

I'm sure you'll find kindred spirits all over the place at AW, and many of them will help you turn your book into the very best version of itself.

Maryn, pleased to meet you

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the ‘forum jump’ you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. Most of the SYW areas require the password of ….vista. A word to the wise, (50 posts), it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Another Sci - Fi writer

Just wanted to say hello. I too am new to this board. Your project sounds intriguing and just like something my theater students would snag of the ole' book shelf. My project lends itself to several platforms... good verses evil, actions vs consequences, teen angst...
Anyway, it sounds like you and I are in the same phase of the process so....
good luck to us!
