If I am referring to another chapter in the same book, what's the correct way? In the example below, "Blah blah blah" is the title of the chapter.

In Chapter 6, "Blah blah blah," we explored the idea...

In chapter 6, Blah blah blah, we explored the idea...

Can't find it in the Chicago Manual of Style--I'm sure it's there, I just don't know where to look it up.

Thanks!

Why name it at all? Isn't just chapter 6 enough? (The examples I've seen are minus the Capital C )

Seems you then go on to hint at what the chapter was about anyway.

In all my reference books, chapter titles are always in quotation marks--with first, last, and all important words beginning with capital letters-- but never italicized.

Italics are for book titles:

In my best-selling thriller, Blah Blah, the fifth chapter is "Blah Blah Blah."

My people will be calling your people about title infringement.

Chapter titles are in quotations, no italics, and the house style usually specifies the referral language.

Quotes. And if you have any influence at all on the format, get them to put the chapter headings--number and name at the tops of the pages, and to do the endnotes that way, too--number and name. You can go crazy trying to find endnote 63 to a chapter you've forgotten the name of and never noticed the number of.
