:hi: Got another problem...

When I try to open iTunes to sync my iPhone I get this message:

The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.

What can I do to fix this?

I have done some research on the web where people have said to delete that file and start over. Since I don't know them and some of the posts are very old, I'm just not comfortable trusting those sources since I'll be completely lost if I screw it up.

Some of you might remember I had some trouble with malware a few weeks ago. I'm not sure if this would be related or not.

I don't recall which version of iTunes I have, as the program will not open. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. I use Vista, if it matters.

Thanks again for all your help :)

When you reinstalled it, did you download the latest version?

I think so...

How would I know? Do they let you download old versions?

No, so I take it that you did download it again when you reinstalled it?

I'd do this (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451), then.

Okay, I did this and when I got the part where I am to import my playlist, it tells me that the files could not be found, but iTunes is working.

Is is safe to sync my phone? Wouldn't it put back all the songs from my phone to iTunes?
never mind, that puts me right back to where I was: my phone not syncing :/

Just updating, not trying to be pushy :)

Now it's giving me this:

This iPhone cannot be used because the required softwear is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install iTunes again.I have since found on a blog to remove the following applications in this order, which I did:

iTunes > Quicktime > Apple Softwear Update > Bonjour > Apple Application Support

then I reinstalled iTunes.

It is still giving me the message above in addition to my information on iTunes disappearing.

I've read and read on the Apple site and through various forums and so far haven't found any suggestions that have worked...

Hmm. I'm not terribly sure what to do. :(

I use iTunes daily, but haven't used it on Windows in ages.

thanks Kuwi...

after a little more research, and the iTunes diagnostic, it says that it doesn't recognize a device...says there isn't one plugged it.

I find that odd because it just told me that "this iPhone" won't work...

*sigh*

This might be a silly question, but how many computers have you synced the iPhone to? There is a limit to the amount of machines it can be synced to. It used to be five but I'm unsure on the latest phones. The SO can't remember but he's only synced his to one computer.

:hi:

Yes, the limit is still 5. For the first time I used the desktop computer ( as opposed to my laptop) and was able to get it working and sync'd. So the issue must be with my laptop.

I'd still like to know what went wrong. Thank you for answering:)
