Okay, so agents refuse to open e-mails with a dreaded attachment. Fine. I don't blame them.

But what happens when I go from:

Scrivener on my Mac OS X, save my novel as a pdf

then open said pdf

cut and paste the pages from that pdf into the body of an email and obviously the email now reads that as an attachment. Agents say, 'thanks, but no thanks'.

So the question:

How do I cut and paste from the pdf. Is it in the save process? What am I missing? Scrivener's incapable of page numbering as far as I'm aware.

Help please.

Can you not export from Scrivener to Word?

I answered this question yesterday in another thread you started. Export it as a RTF and open in Word or another program that supports RTF (just about any type of word processing program will do), then copy and paste.

Save as RTF from Scrivener
Open the .rtf in TextEdit
Save as .txt in TextEdit
Copy and paste a selection from the .txt document to your email.
Send the email to yourself to see if it looks OK
Then do the same for the agent

okay, but here's my problem, and maybe it's not a problem at all

but when I do paste it into the body
there are no page numbers (that's Scrivener lacking)
and no format
and it reverts to single spacing

Yep.

That's because the base format of e-mail is plain text. (Yes, you can sent HTML-based e-mails, but the more simple the better, given spam filters.)

It's ok. Agents will be able to read the first 5 pages in plain text form.
