The blustery Long Island Congressman, Peter King, is reported (http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpolitics/2011/01/11/132844807/gop-congressman-ban-guns-near-federal-officials) to be introducing legislation next week that will make it a Federal crime to carry a gun within 1,000 feet of a Federal official. For his sake, I hope Sarah Palin doesn’t put one of her “surveyor’s marks” over his district.
I wonder if the Tea Party enthusiasts will go after his seat in earnest?

Well, I certainly don't think it's a legitimate goal. I think it's rather imbecilic. A more reasonable goal would be to hire off duty policemen at rallies. And that doesn't require legislation. . . . .

Agreed. If you are going to assassinate somebody this dopey thing will have no affect.
loughner: I'm going to go kill Giffords tomorrow.
Friend: you can't.
Loughner:why?
Friend: there's a law against carrying a gun within 1000 yards of a federal official. You can get in big trouble.
Loughner: ohh. Ok. Damn it.
If someone is willing to give their life to take someone elses, there's isn't much you can do.
I think I learned that from In The Line of Fire.

Thank you. I'm new to this thread and still learning the ropes.
I'm usually all in favour of banning guns, but banning them in the vicinity of politicians only, i consider a big fat "Fuck you!" right in the face of all citizens.

Oh, give me a break. I hope he doesn't break his jaw from jerking his knee up too high.

This is the same douchbag that supported the bombings of London pubs by the IRA. http://crooksandliars.com/susie-madrak/ira-cant-be-terrorists-rep-peter-king

I'm for this, provided I could spin it just a bit. We'll make it (sort of) an Order of Protection.
"A politician is not allowed within 1000 feet of a gun." If they go somewhere, and there are guns present, they have to leave.
And it has the added advantage of protecting folks who go to visit Mr. Cheney.
When it rains, it pours, that's all I've got to say. :D

The head of your House Homeland Security committee supports a terrorist group. Who says the Americans don't do irony?

a Federal crime to carry a gun within 1,000 feet of a Federal official.
And the perks of the protected class only increase...special healthcare, retirement, airline search exemption, and now security laws.
Silly legislation, really. Only expands the scope of victim disarmament zones.
