This is an idea I've been kicking around for a while, and figured with the upcoming holidays (Thanksgiving this month, for those American Hounds) it was as good a time as any.

The concept is simple: we've been running these monthly prompts now for a while, and if the rest of you are anything like me, you had an idea (or two, or three) that somehow just didn't quite get to completion within the span of that month.

And then you stuck it someplace, in whatever passes for your writer's fridge, and other than checking on it now and again for mold, you haven't done anything with it.

Well, this is the month for it.

Take any past prompt, and write about it, so long as it is a prompt for which you did not write a story the first time.

In other words, if you wrote about a puzzle last month, then that prompt does not count as a leftover for you. You finished it. Hopefully you got a cookie for it.

:D

And if you are the kind of sick, twisted individual who has written something for every prompt, then I present you with *drum roll*

Option B: Write a story about actual leftovers. Of any kind.

and the results are in:

Effy - A Bad Egg and Immoral Task

Haggis - They Wait

NightFlyer - Breaking Point

Angie - Hunters, Hunted

Steve - "Early to Bed, Early to Rise..."

List of Past Prompts

Ok, some of the prompts sort of kind of overlapped (hey, we've been doing these for a year and a half, so it's to be expected), so there's been some slight condensing.

  • Famous Sayings (what I think of as Ben Franklinisms)
  • Metallic Feathers
  • Temptation
  • Bugs
  • The Garden
  • Nightmare Fanfic
  • Family Vacation
  • Waiting
  • Cute and Cuddly
  • Cross Genre
  • Local News (there were tears was a compelling argument for keeping this one)
  • Toys
  • Pick Your Poison
  • Senses - One sense only, please
  • Breaking Point
  • Vampires and Werewolves That Do NOT Sparkle
  • Death/Ghosts/Cannibals (this was Haggis, who was not content with one idea)
  • Adages, Idioms, and Figures of Speech
  • Legends: Classic, Urban, or Fairy Tales

there were also two photo related prompts, which can be found here and here

there, happy now Effy? :wag:

Coolness.

Great idea - there's been a bunch of good prompts I never got to.

And sooo many I've started and never finished.

I can hear it now...

"What are you working on tonight?"

"Leftovers"

"No, not what's for dinner, what are you writing?"

"Leftovers - I told you."

Depending on what surfaces, that conversation could get interesting...

(I will post a list of all the past prompts, in this post, sometime later today or tomorrow. Watch this space, in other words. .... ok, watch it from a little further back, ok? That was far too close for comfort. Go on, back up.)

Man, I've been watching that space and nothing. Friggin'. Happens!

I'm going home now... oh wait... that's where I am. Never mind.

Well, I've never done any of the prompts, since I'm new. Can someone run some rules by me? Is there a word limit? Do I post it up in horror SYW when I'm done with it? I have until the end of November, right? Will it be critiqued? Do I really get a cookie?

So many questions...so little time

Um, I suppose... that counts as a leftover, if not an actual leftover prompt per se...

You are talking about Effy's little contest she ran, right?

Yes, Effie's contest.

*Cry smile must be off-duty. Figures.*

I do a really good impression of someone begging...

"Puh-puh-puh please, Boston. I'll share the very last 6'er of OctoberFest with you."
*cracks one open*
"Mmm, tis really good this year, too."

Hey, you folks are all organized over here. How'd you do that?

Also, I'm stealing your idea for SFF SYW for December *cackles*

I mean, Hello nice Horror Hounds, who'd never hurt a soul... No, wait... *runs*

Good idea I have a place I want to take you to eat. I am sure you will need a doggie bag.

ooh, and think of the wings on them. :D

you know, Fen, since you're here... you could come up with something for us. Stealing without something in trade could be... deleterious.

hmmm... maybe a cross-genre trade for December's prompt 'tween the Hounds and the Cantina? Something to contemplate....

Oh, that could be fun :)

My prompt offering is: Buffalo Wings.

Yeah, not that helpful. Forests? Blindness? Driving in a third world country where you must be in the left lane and everyone's more manical than Jersey drivers? (trust me, that's do or die. Don't forget to swerve onto the shoulder whenever anyone randomly comes over to your lane to avoid any little pothole)

:D

I haven't written anything for the previous prompts, but the thread title gave me a bit of an idea for a 'Leftovers' story. So I shall almost-certainly possibly do that.
