Hello

Does anyone have recommendations for good sites/WP themes well suited to freelance writing portfolios please? Pref free. I'm fiddling about with one on weebly just now but not too happy with it. Not found any free wp ones that grab me either.

And if you have multiple work areas (journalism, blogging, social media, marketing, in my case) would you put them all on one but with sep pages/tabs or is it better to have multiple sites tailored to each skill?

And would you upload a conventional CV in word too? What role does that have in relation to your freelance credentials?

The drawback of this I suppose is that I have more exp in some of these areas than others.

What do other people do? I'd love to look at yours and objectively critique them too, if you like.

Thanks very much
Jools

i suppose if you want to keep and market your different areas separately, I'd include separate tabs, sections, or something like that. Personally, I like the theme I found that I use for just showing some clips (see link at the end of this post). It's free and WP-based.

Thanks Jeffrey, yeah that one does work quite well. It gives prominence to a few choice work examples. Also it's not too bloggy, as it doesn't have a big date next to anything you post for example, which makes many of the other wp ones problematic I think.

I use WordPress for my blog and based the look of the rest of my website (which is not driven by WordPress) on that. The theme is named Carrington.

I do different types of work in fairly unrelated areas. I found it easiest to list writing samples (http://www.emilymorganti.com/writing/) and clients (http://www.emilymorganti.com/clients) all together, but organized by category.

I don't have a resume on my website. I had been maintaining separate versions of my resume with different focuses for different types of clients and found that it was more trouble than it was worth. I think my writing samples and client pages give a better idea of the type of work I do. (That being said, in the past few months all of my work has been coming from past clients and referrals, so I haven't really needed a resume... I might feel differently if I were actively soliciting new jobs.)

Thanks, fov cool I see you do a lot of gaming stuff then. Something I'd love to break into myself. So far I'm getting work coming to me too, but I'd like to diversify more.
I really like the cleanness of your ones with the white space and logos.
Mine is very much a draft still, (I need to scan some old articles and drop them in and work on some of the other sections) but see what you and others think. The layout isn't perfect but I love the colours and being WP it's so easy to edit.

A little late here but a popular one that a lot of advertising creatives, photographers, designers and illustrators are using is Cargo Collective.

Go here (http://cargocollective.com/) and look at featured websites for an idea of what you can do.

It's really suited to showing off work. The templates are simple but if you learn just a little html you can start customizing the site the way you want. It's completely open. They have message boards if you don't know html. I didn't and it helped.

Here's my site. www.tyhutchinson.com (http://www.tyhutchinson.com/)
