Does anyone have a recommendation for a designer. I need a logo, letterhead and business card design for my new freelancing endeavor. To be clear, not the printing itself, but the graphic design.

Absolutely!!

The guy who designed my logo:

does excellent work, and is very reasonably priced. The company is called Iron Forge Press. It's http://www.ironforgepress.com, and the guy you'll email is Chuck Loose; I've known Chuck for years and years (he was in my ex-boyfriend's band; actually I think my ex is working there now), so make sure you tell him I referred you. :)

What will happen is, you send them some things you like and/or some ideas you have. They'll give you several options, first in black and white and then in color, if memory serves. The pricing is very, very reasonable, especially since they do automatically give you the copyright on the logo you choose, so you never have to worry about that.

In addition to doing all sorts of graphic design they are a full-service print shop, everything from business cards/postcards to t-shirts. I know you said you didn't need printing itself, but they did my business cards, and I seriously get complimented on those every time I hand one out. They really are beautiful. They're black card stock with the logo on the back and my name, web address, and email address on the front, all done in copper-colored foil so it's shiny copper against black on both sides. (It was the first double-side foil project they ever did, actually!) Seriously, I never take them out of the case without someone telling me how gorgeous they are.

Their normal price for 1000 double-sided cards on nice card stock is extremely competitive. I've seen less expensive ones online, but the quality is nowhere near as good, and you don't have an actual person you're dealing with, you know? This is real quality stuff. My own cards were a bit pricey, but that's because I had expensive black stock and double-sided foil, so again, I was going for tricky & expensive options.

They also did postcards with my original UNHOLY GHOSTS cover for me for DragonCon last year. Again, the price was much less than I'd thought it would be, given that it was full-color printing and everything. And they were beautiful! (Of course, Del Rey decided to change my cover not long after, sigh, but still.)

Anyway. They can do the logo, letterhead, and business card all in one hit, if you like, and I really can't recommend them highly enough. They do beautiful work, they're reliable, good guys, their prices are great, and they can do just about anything you want. They really, really pay attention to what you want for your logo, and like I said they give you several options and really work with you.

I hope that helps! Lol, like I said I know you said "not the printing itself," but I figured I'd mention it, and who knows if someone else may pop in and see this, right? :)

I'd give it a few more days and try again. Because it's a small company, it sometimes takes them a few days to get back to people; if Chuck is sick, or if he's out of town at a show or something he's not getting his emails.

And oh...I seem to recall him telling me they were moving into a new office. That might be it too.

Anyway, I'd give it another try, but I bet he will get back to you soon.
