Such as, having the TV screen take up the whole screen, or having the characters watching the TV and listening.

This sample copied from The Butterfly Effect (http://www.imsdb.com/scripts/Butterfly-Effect,-The.html) which I read last night on IMSDb.com:

INT. ANDREA'S HOUSE - KITCHEN - NIGHT

Andrea does the dishes as the TV plays a NEWSCAST in the
b.g.

ANCHOR
(on TV)
...was the grizzly aftermath of what
police officials of upstate New York
are calling a horrible act of
vandalism gone awry.

Andrea turns to the TV, blocking our view. We can only hear
the report as she watches intensely.

ANCHOR
The powerful explosion is believed
to have been caused by a small
quantity of dynamite.

Andrea's face looks haunted by the on-screen images. She
shakes her head in terror and grabs the remote.

ANCHOR
Police thus far have no leads as to
the suspects...

She clicks off the TV, trembling.

...If the writer had wanted us to also see the images then maybe he would have used something like,

ON TV:

The blazing aftermath of an explosion. Bodies everywhere, police, ambulances and fire trucks attending.
