Harper Collins is holding a contest to promote their new Canadian dictionary. 1000 words, ten of which must come from their list of Canuck-isms.

Pour yourself a Bloody Caesar, grab a butter tart for sustenance, and tie your idiot strings to your keyboard, because the contest closes July 1. (what better day??)
*muckymucks and those affected with beaver fever need not apply
I'm on it like a mukyuk on maple syrup...like a 24 on the 24 week-end...like a loon on a toon...like a mounty on a wheat king...like a toque on a Quebecois!
...like a Prime Minister on a beaver tail...

I'll get right on it like a sasquatch fishing for ogopogo in a stormy keewatin.

Reading that list of words was an eye-opener. I really thought some of the words on the list were more universal than they are.
Do other countries really not have ice wine? Or butter tarts?
How do people live in the rest of the world? :D

I only know that the German language has a comparable word for it - Eiswein

Ha! I was amazed as too. Well I'm going to hike up my gotch, eat a few Nanaimo Bars, pour myself some Yuckaflux (made with 100% alcool) and give it a whirl. Although how you can connect some of those words into one short story is going to be a bit of a challenge.
PS this is going to be as much fun as curling for turkeys or playing meat bingo at the local Legion!
i did it! 960 words. 12 of the words. a canadian tale. (-:
now i just have to edit it for family readiness...checked the rules. der...published in the paper obviously means for all eyes. (-;

Congrats, KTC. But carefully check out the rules and eligibility: nine pages long. What a bunch of hosers, eh?
On the other hand, no entry fee! So just give 'er!

Yuckaflux?? They don't have Yuckaflux either??
Holy hell it's completely uncivilised down there.
It says on the form that you need to fill out the "Contest Entry Form" and it will be labeled as such, but I can't find anything saying "Contest Entry Form". Did you guys fill that out?

Why not? It was free. You went to all that work, why not submit?

because i'm a tortured artist
because i'm a tortured artist
of course! how silly of me.
of course! how silly of me.
sometimes, even smiling makes my face ache
You need to take it slowly -- first a smirk (no teeth), then a slight turn to a grimace, and try to forget all the torment your raw heart has endured, and tell yourself that the world needs to know your pain to heal.

I wasn't too tortured to submit...but I didn't hear back. So, here I am showing the world my pain.;)
