Just for Shadow Ferret, since he seemed so enthusiastic about the idea ;)

I dug up the preview linky.

I'm fed up of all these tired re-boots, they get the style right but they never seem to have any sole.

I'm sorry. I really am. I just couldn't help myself.

Or soul, even.

But then and again, rumor is Jack Lord didn't have one either. Perhaps in this reboot, he'll make a comeback as a zombie. It should still be within his range of talents as a thespian, even post mortem.

Sorry, but that just looks stupid. The real Hawaii-5-Oh, was a Police Unit, not some lame task force with "full immunity and means" whatever the hell that means. And why is it necessary to create some tragic backstory where his father gets killed? Meh. So not happy with this. Well, at least it has the theme song, however poorly remade.

Thanks, Cyia. I didn't want to derail the other one, because I mean to ask... Yep. Daniel Dae Kim, who was on Lost, is in it, too. (as Chin Ho Kelly). The pilot previews make it look very action oriented. More like a mini-movie than a TV-show, which makes me wonder how much of the show is flash over characterization. What is "Flash over characterization?"

Wait. Grace Park is in it. I'm stoked. :D

All "look at the pretty [insert name of actor or location]" while ignoring the need for story or character development. Got a plot hole? Blow something up! No one'll notice.

Jack Lord as a zombie . . .

That's a mental image I didn't need. I bet his hair hasn't changed; I think he had it bronzed.

Funny! :D ... It took me a few seconds (okay, maybe more than a few), but I finally figured it out. (Instead of "soul," you used "sole" because of the previous "re-boots.")

Can you give me an example? Current shows that don't have character development?

I stopped watching Smallville early on when it became a SFX parade.

I never watched Hawaii Five-O the first time around, even though it was popular in my country. Same for Mannix, or the A-Team.
I loved The Persuaders, Mission: Impossible and The Streets of San Francisco though.

meh,

I never got into the original. This one seems okay.

But truth be told, this genre is sorta mined out IMO. There are so many good cop shows out and then there are shows that are pure genuis like The Closer and Burn Notice

The only thing going for this show is that it is seems okay and it will be on a major network. Oh, and it is using the Hawaii 5-0 brand

But overall, it is just more of the same. This type of cop show has been done to death and i've long sinced upgraded to shows like Burn Notice

To be honest, even back in the day, I'm not sure it stood out from the other cop shows except that it was set in Hawaii and had that cool theme song.

I'll be watching for Alex and Daniel. Well and James Marsters as the villian in the first episode. What? I like my Whedon actors.

I just hope this lasts longer than 16 episodes (Alex's current longest running show on CBS). Just think though, after this, he's free from his horrible CBS development contract. you know, thosse don't really seem to work. Eliza Dushku had one wiith Fox and...yeah....wasn't so successful.

ETA: On a completely unrelated note, dgiharris, OMG DALEK!!!!!!!! Dalek/Cybermen smackdown at Canary Warf...brilliant!

Me too. At first I was turned off, but after the trailer, i'm in the mood for some mindless summer action fun.

Movie has potential.

The show's even less "Hawaiian" than the original. Grace Park as 'Kono Kalakaua?' I hope this cast does better with the local vernacular than do Dog and wife.

Marsters is not just planned for the first ep, either. He'll be a recurring character (provided the show lives, of course) for several eps.

So, I thought I'd bring this topic up to the light. It looks as though the show is doing well. It garnered 13 million viewers on premiere night and a little over 12 million on week two. Definitely keeping stride with fellow crime drama (although not in the usual sense) Castle (on ABC). Here's hoping Alex gets a show that sticks around a bit.

Can't say I'm impressed. Same character names but I'm not seeing any vestige of the old characters. The only things I really like about the show are the actors who play McGarrett (Alex O' Laughlin) and Chino Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim). But otherwise, it seems to be the usual cop show, located in Hawaii versus Miami or New York. They added in the token female (and in fanfic terminology, the usual Mary Sue, so you know, superior fighter and excellent eye candy combined) and made McGarrett Jr a former Navy Seal (SF types seem to be another common denominator for tough good guys nowadays). I also kinda like the character Danno, but I'm still reserving judgment on that one. So current verdict for me - if you like action-heavy cop shows, you'd probably like this one, but don't expect a "revisited" Hawaii 5-0.

I'm enjoying it. Lots of fun and action. Some great scenery. I like the interplay between McGarrett and Dano. So far, not a dull moment, which is a problem I have with a lot of cop shows, too much down time.

Isn't that how the yokels pronounce it?

Kinda like here, most natives say M'waukee, dropping the IL.

What I really hate is when the University of Wisconsin is playing a game and invariably someone pronounces it WESconsin. Grr.

Amen that. The theme song was the best thing about it; one of the four or five best TV theme songs ever, back when the Ventures were doing it. The new one sounds like a marginally competent kazoo band as heard over a cheap transistor radio compared to the original. Not a show I'm going to knock somebody over to catch.

At least there's very little fake pidgin English ala Dog the Bounty Hunter. Other than that, all I can say is that I'm unconvinced that Grace Park could ever deck a 200 lb baddie by punching him.

It's a new show that brings a lot of needed revenue to the state. I give it kudohs, brah. Kudohs.

I like it. It's like Miami Vice, but in Hawaii. And with less pastel.

But hey, networks love to cancel new shows I enjoy. I think it's a conspiracy. So I'd give Hawaii Five-O its death knell in five...four...three...

Yea, I don't expect it to last either, since I am watching it. Almost every new show I started last season got cancelled.

But I like it. Storyline was a little cliched, I admit. But it is a fun action show with a really good cast. So I hope it sticks around, and gets better.

I felt this week had a better plot than the pilot (though I do have say...James Marsters is better off doing an American or British accent. The Irish...was a little rough, mate). Plus we got more shirtless Alex this week (what? I like him without clothes on, so sue me!).

I really hope it sticks around. And I have to say, while some of the bits with Danno are a little annoying, I do like his little banter with bad guys after they've collared them. That definitely makes me laugh.

Anybody watching? I kinda gotta thing for Alex O'loughlin, ever since he did Moonlight, so I'm hooked. Not the cleverest show on the tube, but entertaining nevertheless. So, am I the only one with this particular guilty pleasure?

Grrarrgh
05-18-2011, 06:12 AM
Nope, I watch it, too, for pretty much the same reason. Also Daniel Dae Kim. And Grace Park. And Scott Caan. Alex O'Loughlin first, but when I saw the cast list, I was thrilled - I really like all of them.

I'm a little up in the air on last night's finale - stop reading if you haven't watched it yet.

I thought it was a little too soon to have the team go through a huge crisis within in the unit and be scattered everywhere. We're still getting used to them each individually and as a team. But.... it worked, I guess. I hated what they did with the Danny story line. I'm fine with him getting back together with his ex, but I just felt like the baby thing and "I'm going back to Jersey" was a little much.

But, all that said, I'll be watching next season. There are a lot of shows I've decided to give up on, but that's definitely not one of them!!

Victoria
05-18-2011, 06:38 AM
Yeah, it kinda came out of left field. BIG drama all of a sudden. And the Governor? Really? I liked her. Still, it's going to be very interesting to see how things play out. Sigh...I just love it when Alex gets all teary eyed and intense. Thank God for my DVR.

I am a huge Alex O'Loughlin fan so I was planning on watching the show regardless, but the rest of the cast makes it so much more enjoyable. Especially Scott Caan. Last night's finale was a bit much, but it'll be interesting to see how they work it all out next season. I hope that they were intelligent enough to not write themselves into a hole that they can't get themselves out of without expecting their audience to completely ignore everything that has come before like other shows so often do.

But, with that said, Alex O'Loughlin running around without his shirt on might make me turn a blind eye to any crap that they might put on. lol

K. Taylor
05-18-2011, 01:40 PM
It is a very pretty show. ;)

Victoria
05-18-2011, 08:39 PM
They may have pushed the finale a bit too hard, but I hope the writers don't insult our intelligence with a BS storyline in the new season. Like, it was all a dream or some Dallas crap like that. And yes, Scott Caan is adorable, not unlike his father in that way...but ripped, damn what a bod. And how does he get his hair to stay like that? Still, Alex is top hottie on the show, at least for me.
