Sinkhole in Guatamala

Wow! It really does look fake...like those 3D chalk drawings they make on the street. Wow.

I'm pretty sure it is real, though. Much of Guatemala and the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico are underlain by porous limestones, which dissolve, forming massive cave systems and occasional roof collapse features, called cenotes. Google that, and you'll get some spectacular images. Google also "sinkhole Guatemala images".

weird. it looks fake or manmade. seems a sink hole wouldn't look so symmetrical unless it was a prior hole that had been filled in.. but I'm not a scientist and I didn't click on the link....

Ha, I was just over at cnn.com checking that out. It truly is jaw-dropping. The earth is a funny, crazy, scary, fascinating thing. I'd love to climb down and see where the hole goes.

I can almost picture Gerard Butler kicking someone in, shouting, "This is Guatemala!"

They are commonly very circular. Physics. A weak point develops to collapse, and the sides fall in in a radial pattern.
