Eddiewilson, a blog is like a journal in which the person write his or her thoughts, activities, opinions, daydreams, whatever s/he chooses, and instead of locking it up like a diary, it's posted for anyone to see. Many blogs have an underlying purpose, such as selling the blogger's books, or converting others to his/her beliefs, or teaching people about the game of lacrosse.

A forum is a website in which individuals can post questions or comments to which others can reply. Usually it has a single common interest, like baseball, death metal, or collecting coins. One person owns a forum, and runs it however s/he chooses to, including badly. AbsoluteWrite is a forum which is run quite well.

That is as good an example as any.

A blog is where you post your personal things and goings-on like a journal that others can see and reply to. On a forum, you take part in the community, sharking knowledge as well to ask advice. A forum is community based, a blog, not so much.
