Hello. I'm trying to figure out how to do the cover letter for the Lorian Hemingway short story competition...

Here are the instructions:
http://www.shortstorycompetition.com/submissions.php

Does this mean you send the cover letter as a seperate document/attachement? I'm confused....

Anyone?

It's not completely clear, but I think you can send one Word file, the first sheet being the cover sheet. If you like, you can then state in the body of the e-mail that the file includes your story and the cover letter.

If no ones else can answer the question with authority, and you want to be absolutely sure, you could make two files out of it.

They list an email addy at the bottom if submitters have questions. I'd contact them and ask. They may want two separate emails, one with cover letter, one with ms or you may be able to send two attachments in the same email.

Online submissions is apparently a recent thing for them, so they may have some "growing pains" with it as well. Never hurts to ask. ;)

It seemed they wanted two seperate attachments. I assume that stories may be emailed to judges, and since judging is to be anonymous, the cover letter would give away identity.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing, which is why I hadn't really looked at the online submission process.

Here's what I did... I pasted the cover right into the body of the email AND attached the story as a word doc with a cover letter on the first page and only the story/title starting on page 2. I got an email a few days later saying they got my entry, thanked me for following the guidelines.

So I don't know that I did it exactly as they wanted but apparently didn't screw it up so badly as to get disqualified.

Good luck everyone!!!
