Can anyone think of any East Indian actors (leading ones) on the Indie scene? I have a screenplay with both an East Indian protag and antag.

If you can think of any or of any movies with East Indian leads distributed in the US please name them here.

Kama Sutra I think is the name of an INdependant movie I saw on IFC. All east indians and subtitled. That movie was awesome. If your going to make this movie please have sex or nudity. I wouldn't have watched it otherwise LOL. I think this one was done in the U.S though by the feel of it, but I can't be sure.

There is another movie that was East indians and was subtitled and was done in India that I saw on IFC. It was showing a few months back.

You would probably have better luck pitching to producers in India. As they have Bollywood and really don't have much reason to come to US to film and such, but what do I know.

no, you'd probably have better luck pitching to companies in the UK. they make many more indian flicks and have many more indian actors than we do.
or you can try: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0623235/

it's already tough enough to get someone to love your idea enough to read it. why write a story for a leading actor that you don't even know exists? red flag!

Hello!
My screenplay also has a mostly Indian cast and Indian theme. I tried selling it a few years go in Britain but without success. I was hoping to get Ashutosh Gowarikar interested, the director of Lagaan, and even got hold of his email address! But no luck. I would try Mira Nair, if I were you. I think she lives in New York. She directed Kama Sutra and Monsoon Wedding.
Here's her website:

The British Film indutry is indeed interested in Indian themed movies, but only if they have British connection, ie British or British based writers, about the British Raj, etc.
I've recently dusted off my old screenplay as India is bigger than it was back then and I think the right time is now, and I'll be making enquiries myself. I'll certainly share any info I get with you, here or in private.

Judi. I think I'll try Ashutosh Gowarokar again; do you have an address for him? If it's in India no problem!

Hi Aruna. I forgot about Mira Nair. I'm still trying to get my script made into film at this point too. Hopefully, I'll find out next month whether or not to send it elsewhere.

Here's Ashutosh Gowariker's info

I can't wait to read your book - The Speech of Angels (http://www.sharonmaas.com/html/the_speech_of_angels.html).

You should check out The Ashram by Sattar Memon. I know you'd really love it.

Thanks so much, Judi!

Unfortunately, my books are not available in the Us as I do not have an American publisher. If you really want it, however, I could let send you a copy really, really cheap when my son goes to the US next month (assuming you are US based!) so as to save postage... I have a lot of hardbacks I'd like to get rid of.

You're welcome Aruna. Glad I could help. Yes I am based in the US (that is until my dream of visiting India and working with Shah Rukh Khan comes true - lol). That would be great, thank you. I'll PM you the address to send it to. Just let me know what the cost will be.
