So, I’ve been following Jeff VanderMeer’s series of posts (http://www.jeffvandermeer.com/2009/12/22/finch-and-black-hawk-down-translating-technique-from-movies-to-fiction/) on his new book, Finch, and I’m wondering if anybody else here has? I’m asking here because he’s an SF author discussing an SF book.
I found his commentary to be very interesting and insightful, and quite above the sort of analysis/commentary I’ve seen elsewhere. (Well, Uncle Jim is right up with it, I suppose.)
I’ve never run into an author who focused so much attention on blocking in an online critique/blog post/thingy, or such attention to character detail. Now, I’m sure people see a lot more of this stuff in workshops, and possibly literature classes, but, web-wise, it’s pretty near the top level as far as I’ve seen.
Thoughts?
