She doesn't get her own show, but will appear a lot, apparently, for a few years. Isn't this what she wanted all along. I mean, being Pres is such hard work.

I really don't want her to be the Republican candidate but it's wonderfully amusing to watch the left continue to freak about about her and to see them lose their minds about her would be fun.
But I don't want her and the dude in the White House.

The problem with Sarah Palin threads is that they keep using the same old memes from 2008.
It's like... Damn, can't some of you get new material? I'll just cover the basics (ad lib style).
Palin can see Russia from ____ (Insert location here... House, Fox News Studios, Random Ass Places)
Insert mocking innuendos such as chanting "Nailin Palin."

I don't know why the right-wing thinks that those to the left on the political scale HATE Sarah. We don't hate her. We mock her, especially when she says strange things, lies through her teeth and gives that creepy beauty pageant wink. But, that's politics. It's kinda fun to watch her, just like it was fun to watch Dan Quale.
I was under the impression that the political right didn't actually HATE Obama. I thought they just disagreed with him, but I must be wrong because their assumptions of the political left seems to be based on their own feelings toward the loyal opposition. They think that since the Right HATES, the same must be true of the Left. We're the bleeding hearts, remember. We want happy endings for everyone, remember?
I hope she is happy in her new job. I think this is what she was looking to do all along. I think that's why she quit as Gov. of Alaska. She likes the attention, she likes the camera and now she gets all of that every day.
So...I'm starting to wonder if Mitt Romney will be the candidate in 2012, since everyone else has either gone to Fox News or had a horrible scandal.
EDIT: I don't hate Palin, but I strongly dislike her because she doesn't take responsibility for any of her mistakes, and because she had the nerve to act like John McCain was holding her back. I don't like what she said about my preferred candidate (Obama), but I'm more disgusted by the backstabbing and whining. I don't understand why she's even welcome in Republican circles anymore.

My opinion of Sarah has changed, I now look at her as an entrepreneur instead of a politician which improves her status and proves me right about her interest in promoting all things Sarah which is actual quite nobel. She was given an opportunity and instead of squandering her fifteen minutes of fame she has been able to capitalize quite nicely.
She was a gimmick designed to energize a base disillusioned voters stung by the ineptness of a conservative nimrod. She was forced down the throat of John McCain and was smart enough to know that she was playing second fiddle to a loser. So, she took the spotlight, dealt with the critics and played out her hand for a future trip in which she is riding high at the moment. Sure beats a 250,000 gig as an Alaskan Guv.

Oh, don't be a pessimist, blacbird. Look, so Palin ended up exactly where most people thought she'd land anyway after she quit the governor's gig.
If they pair her with the right partner this could really work well. How about pairing her with New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick? It could be like a new "Regis and Kelly" show. Hell, Sarah's at least twice as perky as Kelly Ripa!
It would be a match of one person who's supposedly a genius, but only mumbles, speaks in a monotone and has the personality of a permanently pissed off grizzly bear and a perky cheerleader type who is bubbling over with breathless enthusiasm but isn't smart enough to know the difference between North and South Korea.

Wit? The woman can barely string sentences together. Mc Cain's own campaign advisor Steve Schmidt has come out exposing the woman as uninformed (and with that choice of word I am being kind).
Good-looks is open, I suppose to intrepretation, although I know a large number of men who don't think Palin is a beauty despite her fancy pagaent walking.
As for liberals hating her, it isn't so. We just are appalled at her ignorance, her lack of poise, and the potential to take this country into a train wreck.
She is far from a fantastic success; she's a quitter. I might have been able to dredge up a flicker of respect if she had managed to finish her term as governer but she jettisoned it so that she could move on to higher paying gigs like this at Faux News.

If you mean the "national conversation", then, no. Sarah Palin is no longer of importance in the political landscape; talking about her is the same as talking about some numbnuts on American Idol. It would only steer away the conversation of people who were not interested in substantive political discussion in the first place.

Generally, a year after a presidential election people can't even remember who the VP candidate of the defeated party even was, let alone continue to use him or her as a punching bag.
In a way, it's rather funny to watch Chris Matthews, Keith Obermann, and Rachael Maddow try to generate outrage at the doings of Palin and the Republicans (the party OUT of power) when you would think that the doings of the party IN power would be much more newsworthy.

Really? Then why this thread at all? Why does it matter that she's been offered a job at Fox? Why does she continue to make national news?
Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien are now engaged in a game of musical chairs for the late-night talk show spot on NBC, Oprah and Simon Cowell are quitting their shows, and Miley Cyrus is killing off Hannah Montana this year. All those things have made about the same amount of national news that Palin's new gig has, and for pretty much the same reasons.
Face it: Sarah Palin got elevated into the spotlight in August 2009, and she loved it then and loves it now, and she herself is doing everything in her power to stay there. Hardly a week goes by that she doesn't make some announcement or pronouncement of a self-aggrandizing nature.
Generally, a year after a presidential election people can't even remember who the VP candidate of the defeated party even was, let alone continue to use him or her as a punching bag.

Taking umbrage at what the party currently in power is doing is the job of Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Beck, et al. Before the last election they were all engaged in hammering the part out of power, and defending the party driving the bus over the cliff. In a way it's rather funny to watch them foam at the mouth, too.

Joe Lieberman and John Edwards didn't exactly fade quietly into the sunset, never to be heard from again. Neither did Ed Muskie, Bob Dole, or Lloyd Bentsen. In fact, all of them except Bentsen were considered serious contenders for their party's nomination in the next election.

Wit? The woman can barely string sentences together.
I watched a half hour interview O'Riely did with her. She couldn't have asked for a more friendly interview.
She struck me as very nice, and not as stupid as I thought she was. (Anyone who can still tout abstinence education when she has a living breathing example of its failure living with her isn't exactly a rocket surgeon.) My overall impression is that she's just a little dumber than average, not horribly stupid, just slightly dumb.
Which makes her accomplishments pretty damn awesome.
I wouldn't mind having her as a next-door neighbor. But I wouldn’t want her on the local school board, much less in an important political role.
A "news" organization which aligns itself with a particular party is no longer a news organization.
Is there one that doesn't? The Economist is the only one that comes to mind.
Most Canadian news services are apolitical. The local paper (in the national capital) routinely puts adversarial editorial columns side by side. They sometimes take direct jabs at each other. Great fun.
When I was first exposed to American TV a few years ago, I was gobsmacked. (I don't get cable.) They don't report news, they make war. It was really disturbing. Polarized, nasty, opinionated, mean-spirited... On both sides. I don't know what bothers me most, listening to the ones I disagree with or listening to the ones I do agree with making me ashamed for being associated with them.
Has it always been this bad? Was there ever any such thing as civil discourse and an attempt at unbiased reporting in the American media?

I'm not obsessed with her, but I certainly do find her interesting. With the success of her book, I remember that there was a thread about whether or not this meant she had potential to be president. I would certainly never vote for her, and I don't read political autobiographies, but if I did, I would want to read hers. Okay, this'll be the third "This. Exactly this."
There are now several networks that have tasked themselves with being about the "news" 24 hours a day, and with that brought vitriol along the lines of the guys and gals you think of when I write the word pundit. To bring it back to the topic at hand, it doesn't help that when this supposed war of words does not yet fill the 24 slots they've got going, they stop to blather on about people who no longer hold a position in politics.
I sure hope that balance eventually returns. Internet news services tend to be better, I find. The emotional manipulation is so much more difficult, I suppose.

This. Exactly this. It seems with certain people, loving them means they never have to say they're sorry for anything, ever. Even when they say or do something that is so ridiculously, clearly wrong that it hurts the public discourse or works against the citizens. That is a big problem on both sides of the aisle and/or dial, for me.
I'll second it. She annoys me on many levels (not hate, just irritating, like a tsitsi fly) because she's got an excuse for everything, and nothing is ever her fault. Always ready with the finger pointing.
I've had kids like that in class. They annoy me too, and usually wind up being sent to the office.
That and sometimes the stuff that comes out of her mouth just make her sound like a flaming idiot, (Biden does too, but he at least says it with conviction :) ) and people just lap it up. Which makes me want to slap them for also being idiots.

I'm glad she found a home. I'm RELIEVED it's not the Vice-President's mansion!
Fox seems like a perfect fit for her. They don't let the facts get in the way, they pander to fear-mongering and like shiny objects.
Oooh...shiny....

It's kinda fun to watch her, just like it was fun to watch Dan Quale.
I realize that I'm new to this site. But since this is, first and foremost, a writing site, I couldn't help but point out the irony in this sentence.

Writers don't always write writerly-like (like now :D ). There are many forums here about writing. This isn't one of them. Or maybe we're tryin' to be all Palin-like, you betcha!

This is wonderful news. Hopefully, with lots of exposure, people will realize just how short of a six-pack she is, and she'll fade quickly from the national scene.
Well, you're talking Fox viewers here, so don't be so sure.

Seems like two of the inspiring people set to appear on the first Palin show aren't. Appearing, that is.
When Cool J and the other guy (Tobey Keith?) found out old interviews were being recyled by Fox for Palin's show giving the impression she was the one who worked on the interviews, the subjects in question objected.
Fox pulled their stories and insulted Cool J calling him a "fledgling actor."
Classy of them.

If you or Cool j were offended by fledgling, then perhaps he is. I know men think Palin is pretty, what do the women think? Are they all just jealous of her?

The old 'you're just jealous' line? Really?

Oh, I think she's pretty. So?
I also think she's an intellectual lightweight. I think she's in the game sorely for her own benefit, not for the greater good. I think she has a mean streak that enables her to stoop to levels *I* would never go for.
"...Hey, media, let's honor our troops by stop making stuff up...Health care is going to mean death panels..." "I resigned from the governorship of Alaska to pursure a higher calling...Rush was using the word retard as satire so it's okay....Who IS Barack Obama? A man who hangs around with terrorist..."
She'll be a minor footnote in the larger scheme of things. IOW, she's not a contender.

Agreed, but then, why shouldn't she be? (I mean, other than that bailing on the state of Alaska, that is?)
She'll be a minor footnote in the larger scheme of things.
Wish I could be sure enough to agree with you. In the world of short attention span media watchers, she's in the right place to be a player in the next election, if not a candidate.

I think she's the next Pat Buchanan. Stalwart conservative mouth piece, with just enough character defects to keep them from the Oval Office, and possessing some very shrewd political instincts.

I think you nailed it, whistlelock. She does need to go learn what some of those cliches she likes to use actually mean, though.

there's plenty to criticize about buchanan's world view, but he's a committed paleocon and former white house staffer who has probably forgotten more about politics than palin will ever know.
i know patrick buchanan and sarah palin is no patrick buchanan.
