so if you don't have really any experience to speak of, how do you go about writing an author's bio? i have some experience as a feature writer at a small town newspaper and i am currently a copywriter at a small radio station! will that be enough for a pitiful start??

My suggestion (I have very little experience in this so just to warn you) is read the author bios of some of your favorite authors. Most list personal facts rather than experience. Like family, schooling, hometown, interests, why they started to write and such. Think of it as your chance to tell a little bit about you, the person behind the writing.

Or are you asking about the "author's bio" paragraph in a query letter?

It depends where the bio is going. I suggests a few personal details, someprevious experience and either the name of prior books or your website?

What about the bio some agents ask for when asking for sample chapters? I need to write one of those, but I have little writing experience--unless you count writing a small piece for the local paper, but somehow I don't think that would do too much to impress.

also...do you write it in first person - second?

as in -

hootchie momma lives in blah blah, and does such and such...

or more book report style, just listing the facts?
