I posted this question under the Writing Lyrics section, but I figured there might be some musicians in the YA group who could help me. :D

In my wip, I used lyrics from an Aerosmith song that were perfect for a scene (caused an important flashback). Problem is getting permission from Aerosmith to use them will be expensive and time consuming. Plus there's no guarantee I'll get permission. So now I'm left with the daunting task of writing my own. *Gulps* Fortunately, I don't have to write the whole song (though it might be better if I did). I wove parts of Angel in the flashback scene, and it worked well that way.

Any suggestions for blogs I should check out for help? I'm going to hit the library today for some books.

Thanks for all your help!

Hey there has to be a Desmond Child lyric generator somewhere on the internet. I'd look for that.

You could think of the Aerosmith song for the basic melody, and come up with your own lyrics (especially a chorus that repeats the theme of the song). Try to find the mood of the song as much as anything else. Something like . . . imagining the music of Angel playing and Steven Tyler singing . . .

INTO THE NIGHT

Tonight
I want to be so close to you
You're the other thing I need
Come and be so close to me
Let's see where love might lead
The place where lovers go

CHORUS
Girl
Come and take my hand
Let's run away in-to the night
Girl, Come and take my hand
Until we see the morn-ing light

Okay, those are not the greatest of lyrics (I did them in five minutes), but you get the idea.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to use a different balland for the basis of the melody and incorporate some of the words from Angel that were important for the flashback. If I use a different melody then it won't look like the original song, I hope. :D

Now I have to come up with a name of the ficticious band. :rolleyes
