When people in Rhode Island hear the word hurricane, they go nuts.

It's the same way in the winter. If the weatherman says "blizzard" or even "we'll be getting a few flakes of snow", Rhode Islanders flock to the store to buy milk and bread.

Civilized? Ha!

Civilized? Ha!

sounds like my relatives in Virginia. Though they have the excuse that they don't get much snow. I would have thought everyone who lived in the NE was used to it.

Which doesn't mean they remember that they know how to drive in it - or even that they do. Years of living in snowy areas have taught me that much at least.

What should I have?

You could try the school lunch I just had:

homemade chicken and noodles (delish)
Yummy cherry cobbler (I didn't add the yummy-but it was)
corn (canned--just thought you'd want the specifics)
homemade white roll (very thick and chewy)
chocolate milk (2%)

Ooh! You should start a "Name the Spider On My Wall" poll. :D

You could go for a classic literature name, such as "Charlotte",

or the classic fantasy standby, "Shelob",

or a touch of grim humor with the horror movie touch, "Consuela".

Last year the kindergarten class named one of my tarantulas "Fluffy".

Perhaps a little tongue-in-cheek macabre, such as "Morty", or "Muerte".

Being large and staying in one place would suggest to me that it's female. If she brings a little smile to your face when you see her, perhaps an upbeat name would be appropriate. Like "Sunshine", or "Daisy". :tongue

Of those I've submitted 12 stories, but have only made 18 total submissions.

Two stories were lost in email, and never resubmitted. (Technically bringing my submissions down to 16)
Three accepted. One of those has since been published, and reprinted.
One out on submission, waiting for response.
One honorable mention.
And a combined total of 11 rejections.

Conclusion: I need to stop being such a coward, and submit more.

LOL, when I was a teenager I used to eats loads and still be rail thin. I never found a conclusive answer as to why I could do that, but methinks it's more about metabolism than anything else. The higher metabolism burns the food faster, which lessens amount of fat created, but which also makes you hungry again soon after eating...

If she's anything like me, one day when she's in her twenties she'll look down and see an actual stomach and think, "How did that get there?"

Also, I'm listening to workmen pulling down the living room ceiling. Don't worry - they're meant to be doing that. It's a long story, but this house is 1.5 years old and has had a leak problem coming from the balcony the whole time. I'm surprised it took the workers this long to get around to fixing the ceiling... there was pretty much a whole year where they ignored our complaints. Bastards.

Just finished explaining to two 8th grade girls why we keep bottles of soda in the fridge after opening--the solubility of gases in a liquid increases as the temp of the liquid decreases. The decrease in temp slows down the movement of the particles so less escapes the liquid. As the liquid warms up, the solubility decreases (less gas can be dissolved in the same amount of liquid). The particles are moving faster and can escape much more easily. Clear as mud?
