Right now, I'm watching TCM. Cartoon Alley's on. Three Popeye cartoons are on and while I was watching them, I realized they fit the story structure perfectly.
Ordinary World--Popeye and Olive Oyl are a couple
The Call--Bluto comes on the scene to steal Olive
Refusing the Call--Popeye tries to keep Bluto away
Tests--Popeye and Bluto compete
Inmost Cave--Bluto not only beats Popeye, but he also knocks him unconscious
Return/Resurrection--Popeye eats his spinach and gets his second wind
Seizing the Sword--He mops the deck with Bluto
Return with Elixir--Popeye and Olive live happily ever after (or until the next cartoon)
Forget Star Wars...that's long and drawn out over 2½ hours. In 10 minutes, you can learn the hero's journey. It's like Father Guido's Five-Minute University.
