I was just reading about this before I left work today... Nothing surprises me anymore; the number of terrorist groups operating in the US is frightening, what with the Muslims of America (Jemaah Islamiyah) in NoVA, NY and numerous other states and then there's Hizb ut-Tahrir recruiting most recently in Chicago, etc. (to name but two). This isn't very recent but gives you an idea:

Just as bothersome, his mother ran a daycare out of the house and never told the state her son was living there or that he'd been arrested.. Which she was obligated to do for her daycare license. He was teaching at a middle school.

Lock him away in a SuperMax prison, no human contact and forget about him.

I never believe in executing people like him why make them a martyr to their twisted cause

Way to go U.S. law enforcement for catching this idiot!!!

I love that in the article people who know him are laughing at the charges and proclaiming how ridiculous the whole thing is.

That's the same kind of thing that people said about the 9/11 highjackers. They lived and worked in our communities. They had friends and functioned in normal society just like this clown.

It's not like these terrorists or wannabes are completely underground.

Often, the best place to hide is in plain sight.

I wish I knew where all these people keep getting this money from to travel.

I mean, I can barely get the car's gas tank filled up, but they're jaunting back and forth to the Middle East?

Sheesh.

Why is anyone surprised? There are people like this scattered all over the US, not all Islamic. There are crazy fringe Christians, vegetarians, environmentalists, anti-choice, white-power, anti-gay, libertarians (with a small 'l') and countless others types. We're lucky that although there are many types, they are few in number.

Add to this the idea that what you are doing is for God, and you've got yourself a terrorist. Don't focus on the 'Islamic', just focus on the 'fanatic.'

You're right.

It seems that if you want to engage in this sort of activity plain sight's the way to go.

Exactly. It's what people do with their beliefs and how they act on them, not the beliefs itself. What's scary is how unsurprising this kind of thing is, not that it's there.

It's all alleged at the moment, yes? I'd want to see evidence before I condemned him, to be certain that this was not discrimination.
