Once the article is submitted

I couldn't find a thread that addressed this - so I would like to ask a question.

Once I submit an article to a publication/magazine for consideration, am I allowed to post that article on my blog or website - or do I have to wait until they make a decision (however long that takes) - thanks for your help.

Generally, you have to wait until they publish it - you are selling them the rights to be the first publishers of it, so if you were to put it up in the web before they even print it, many will consider the article already published. That can seriously annoy the publication you work with and may result in you getting paid less.
