Just wanted to say a big THANX!!!! I just finished reading the contract that PA sent me. As a newbie, I was seriously wondering why any author would sign away their baby for such a small hope of success. (That contract seemed to give PA any money I might possibly make; unless I sold 6000 books.) I thought I'd check what I found on the internet about them. I'm glad I found this site.
You all busted my bubble; but, I will regroup and try to find an authentic offer. I may even choose to self publish; this time with my eyes open.
Thanx Again!

Welcome, mizzpam! :welcome: I signed with PA over a year ago and the contract seems to be quite different than the one they have now. That's not to say that the previous contract was a good one, but it did include two free author copies and no stipulation on a minimum amount before receiving a royalty check. You mentioned something about PA receiving all the money unless you sell around 6,000 books. Would you be willing to share the terms of the current contract with us?

Welcome, Mizzpam. I've moved you out of the "What Professionals Say..." thread to give you your own place to discuss anything you need to.

DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING WIth them. 6,000 copies!!!!!!!!!! only if you buy them. they will not pay you royalties on them unless its a special going on. You will not sell 5 books with them much less 6,000. RUN and Run now and Burn it up. My royalty checks have been a total of 2,37. over the last year and i don't get anything for the books that i have seen sold on Amazon. listen to everyone here when we say to run and tell anyone that does write to saty away from PA tate publishing and SBP.

Deleted by Merri because it sounded mean when I re-read it.

I didn't get that with my contract that I signed in December. It was pretty standard-I am contracted with them for Renegade Night-they in turn publish the book and distribute it to buyers(you know they have the markets on their heels in the UK and abroad) and I am under no obligation to buy any copies whatsoever. However, even though marketing is at their discretion-I never believed that they would have my book so high in price! Really I just thought for a soft cover book, that it would be the same price that you'd find anywhere. Most of the books in my genre on their site are under 20 bucks.
