I didn't know quite where to post this. I've noticed that certain publishing companies, (like Scholastic) have overseas imprints that are more open than the US version, which demands agents. :Huh:Why is this? And are there any tricks or disadvantages to applying to the overseas version instead? Besides the obvious postage and monetary differences I mean.

Many of their overseas publications are pathetic. They're riddled with errors and produced by people who don't natively speak the language in which the book is published. In South Korea, particularly, many publishers have divisions that put out thousands of copies that sell well and that are produced so badly that they do a massive disservice to the people that use them.
