I know this may have been addressed somewhere in the archives but I would love to know the exact definition of a Chapter Book. How long is it, does it have special vocabulary, number of chapters, length? If someone has a link that would be helpful too. Thanks in advance.

This is a pretty decent link: http://write4kids.com/colum44.html
I just read Olive's Ocean by Kevin Henkes. It's a decent length chapter book with very short chapters. He made each scene a chapter. Some were just a couple of pages long. So, there were several chapters.
Others, like Bruce Coville (I think that's his name,) seem to love to take a chapter break at the most suspense-filled moment (kind of like soap operas.) I like his style, but don't really appreciate cliff-hangers at the end of every chapter. I think it's a bit gimmicky.
