New anthology and companion website seeking personal essays of up to 1500 words. “Little Blue Lines” publishes essays that capture the emotions -- angst, elation, turmoil, etc. – of a woman taking a pregnancy test.
Whether you desired a positive result and it was negative, desperately hoped for a negative only to see that plus sign, or received the outcome you wanted, we want to hear your story!
In the style of personal essay anthologies like Cup of Comfort and Chicken Soup for the Soul, Little Blue Lines supports, encourages and entertains women dealing with unwanted pregnancies or infertility issues, as well as those celebrating long-awaited pregnancies.
Pay is up to $50 for the print edition, payable after publication, and $10 for the online edition, payable via Paypal on acceptance. First print and electronic rights purchased. Reprints accepted only for online edition, please indicate if the work is a reprint when you submit.
E-mail your original essay in the body of the email (no attachments please) to DawnAllcot (@) gmail dot com. Please allow up to 8 weeks for a response, as the site has not yet launched.

Can pregnant women stay irrational during the whole pregnancy? Well LONG story short....my girlfriend well ex cuz i made her mad and she left me....is about 15 weeks pregnant now and she cant stand me. We were a serious couple with talks of even getting married. Before the pregnancy she was the type to get mad and get irrational but be able to calm herself down in about 10 minutes. It seems like now she gets set off and she cannot bring herself back down. She is convinced that i dont love her, care about her and only think i want to be with her because shes pregnant. I havent spoken to her in about a week and a half now and its starting to break me down a little bit. People have said that she will start to calm down in the 2nd trimester but so far it seems nothing is changing. So my question is is it possible that this could go on during the entire pregnancy? Or am i really losing the love of my life.

Dawn,
Is there a deadline for the print edition? Will the online version be ongoing? It's been a looooong time for me; my brain is hurting at the thought of the time travel involved!

Thanks for the responses...actually, we (myself and another longtime member of AW) are working on the site *right now*. There may not be essays up at first but there will be additional details. I need 8 the weeks to review submissions, etc., get the site launched, get content up. But i wanted to put this out there to gauge the response, too!
Amy - the print edition will be ongoing, as a platform to sell the book once it launches AND to provide additional content to readers who enjoy the book.
I have to be honest, the book does not have a publisher yet but I feel this project will see print. I'm determined to keep the website going as a permanent online 'zine, though.
I haven't set a deadline for the print edition but will at some point, probably when I get a deadline from the yet-to-be-determined publisher. And the online edition, as I said, will be ongoing.
This *is* legit although it's my first time tackling a project this large without the revenue of a publisher behind me. That's why my rates for the online edition have to be so low to start. I appreciate everyone who will take a chance on this new publication, because I have a feeling it's going to be a hot seller!

Dawn, Thanks for the info. I don't think any of us who know you would doubt for a nanosecond that your project is legit. You've earned the respect of all of us here. I'll be glad to vouch for your trustworthiness--but people will have to take the word of a tiara-wearing giraffe!

If I've told the story online before, but want to rewrite for the 'zine, does that count as a reprint?
I'm sorry, I'm not very smart when it comes to this sort of thing.

If it's completely rewritten, with a different title, it's not the same article. :-)
Reprints are the exact same one.
Can you tell the story from a different point of view? Like looking back or maybe as if you were right there again?
And, I'm happy to say- I've submitted! Though Mrs. Dawn is being very closed lipped for now, I'm digging on her idea!

Elegy:
Don't be sorry--that's a very valid question. If you tell the same basic story but re-write it completely, that's not a reprint. In fact, I'm doing that (for another market) with the story of my daughter's birth.
Also, to clarify, it's not a 'zine but an anthology that I'm currently shopping around. The website is a definite right now... the print publication doesn't have a publisher YET.
In the case of reprints, the publisher would have the last word. I don't personally care but they won't want reprints from the Web for a print anthology (I would imagine).
