The main character in one of my WIP can be really jealous within her relationship with her boyfriend.... I'm curious about others opinions on jealousy within a relationship... To be more specific I mean when it comes to them flirting or being flirted with...

Mod: Please nix the L in the title :) Thanks.

It seems that so far, the eggplant is winning. :tongue

You didn't put in an option for those of us who have no spouse/partner. Except Orlando.

Now if you changed it to Cate Blanchett, I'd have voted that way. :D

I had to go with eggplant. I don't get jealous because my husband never flirts and doesn't seem to pick up on it when other women flirt with him. In past relationships (with man whores) I wouldn't really get jealous as much as I would just get pissed off.

You're right I should have included that in it :) It's not exclusive for coupled peeps :)

I picked Orlando as a way of saying sometimes. :) Most of the time, I don't care, but if it's over the top, like the chick's really smokin' or if DH can't keep his tongue in his head, I can get a little annoyed.

Personally, no. :)

I'm a huge flirt, as some of you may have noticed, and would have no problems with a spouse who was equally flirty. I consider it harmless fun.

I know some people are of the belief that once you're in a relationship, you should only have eyes for your partner, but I'm not one of them. :)

Agree with that. Flirting is harmless as long as it doesn't go too far.

Completely disagree. If I was with a man who wanted to actively flirt with other women, he wouldn't be with me for long.

You're giving your sexual energy to someone outside the relationship.

If I understand what I've been told about polyamory (and it's entirely possible I don't), some peeps feel like the more sexual energy they distribute, the more they get back.

I was under the impression we were talking about more traditional set-ups.

Personally I don't have a problem with polyamory or swinging or open relationships as long as everyone's kept in the loop, understands and agrees to it.

Would you bite his head off right then, or wait 'til you got home?

Neither. I'd simply get my coat, leave him to it, and be out of his life.

Eh, we were. I don't have enough to do at work, and the board seems a little quiet this morning. :D

I had something for this...
In answer to the OP, I don't get jealous, although I can't recall my Mrs Wit flirting with anyone in recent memory. I don't flirt in real life. Too easy to mislead/be misled.

One, your title says Jealously instead of jealousy.

And two, I don't really mind if women flirt with my husband. They usually don't though.

I think it would only bother me if she did it right in front of me or while she was with me. To me, that's disrespectful.

The idea that she might be flirting with someone else? Nah, that don't bother me.

But for some reason, today, eggplant sounds really delicious.

I trust Mr. Maryn so completely that I know he would, at most, flirt back at a superficial level, and probably not even that. It's pretty cool, having that level of trust. But it didn't develop immediately, of course. Whether and how a character reacts will depend entirely on the trust level of the relationship.
