View Full Version : Bastardi Family To Sue In Diane Schuler Taconic Car Crash

If you're unaware of this story, google "taconic car accident schuler" or find the story from a source of your choice. Long story short, a woman with kids in the car drove for 1-2 miles on the wrong side of the road, with THC and alcohol in her system, and crashed into another car, killing 8 people (everyone involved but a five-yeard old boy). The Bastardi family, who lost two members, is suing.


The case has a "a strong fragrance of criminality" and anyone who was aware of her condition and allowed her to drive could "possibly be an accomplice," said Irving Anolik, a Nanuet attorney representing the family of Guy and Michael Bastardi.
"It's hard for me to believe that the family did not know that this woman had an alcohol problem or a drug problem."

I agree with BoP. The family is not liable.

There is no evidence that Diane's husband allowed her to drink and drive.

I'd love to see how the prosecuting attorney proves any one else knew Diane Schuler was in no condition to drive.

I feel for the victims - the innocent victims living and dead. But I'm sorry, this is gold digging. It has a strong fragrance, all right - but it's not criminality I'm smelling...

I don't know that I believe he didn't know something about her drinking/smoking. And if she was insane enough to think it was OK to drive while guzzling down the vodka and smoking a joint with all those kids in the car, I do wonder where he stood on that crazy-meter.

Still, she had enough time after she left with the kiddos to do all of it herself. So it would be hard to prove if he did know.

I still can't get over how she did that. A kind of suicide? Outright suicide? Just a selfish, selfish alcoholic? Peace to all the families, in any case.
