Having seen the first series, I can assure you it most definitely does not suck. Not even for a moment.

Though I'm still mourning the fact that they replaced two of the original cast members from the first pilot. Hmph.

I really enjoyed this one! Mitchell is incredible and I like the premise (unique). Just the right amount of humor blended in with the suspense/drama. Hopefully the rest of the season will live up to the pilot. :)

Saw the pilot when they FINALLY got a clue and put it on BBC America. It's a great premise and a great central cast. I kind of wish there was a bigger effects budget, but the fact that the show is so good without a lot of SFX says a lot for the writing.

BenPanced

It's still not sucking! There were a couple elements of the second episode (Tully, the kill video) that were delightfully disturbing, meaning I wasn't completely squicked out to look away. And I have a theory about Annie that I think is going to be answered in the next episode or so (SPOILER WARNING? I'm thinking Owen pushed her down the stairs, based on his behavior in the first episode and how Annie accidentally called Tully "Owen" when he grabbed her arm in the kitchen.) We'll see.

I watched the first two episodes and I think it's fantastic. The writing is good, and the acting is superb.

Interesting to compare it to True Blood, which I also like, but which is basically lightweight entertainment. Being Human is as much about relationships between people as it is a supernatural adventure series, and it rings very true.

One of the best supernatural themed shows I've seen in a long time.

Saw the 2nd episode and I'm still loving itl!!! I hope it lasts for more than one season... :)

George is hilarious - I love how he talks... the behind the scenes show was interesting as they elaborated on his speech pattern, etc. Looks like next week's ep will focus on the ghost.

Be sure to put somekind of **SPOILER ALERT*** if you are going to discuss the show. Some of our wayward brotheren have yet to see the show.

As for when it is on. If you have Comcast it is part of their On Demand feature and it is FREE :)

It updates every Sunday morning so I catch the episodes usually sometime during the week.

I like the fact that it seems to go in an unpredictable direction that is true to the characters.

My only regret is that I started watching the show. What I prefer is to buy the DvDs and just watch them all straight through in a weekend or two.

Now I have to freaking wait around for a whole week. AARGH!

The Brits quite commonly do six hourlong or so shows for a "season." We've come to expect more here, but I think it allows them to produce some finely crafted series.

I think this is a great series, just top rate.

What the hell, 6 episodes is a Season? We are Americans, have you seen what we call a 'small' at McDonalds. SUPER SIZE ME. Christ, only six episodes.

yeah, I saw the latest BH

***Spoiler Alert***

I liked how things really picked up and love the characters, the fight between Annie, George, and the Vampires was hilarious and felt 'real'.

I also like the fact that the Star of David kept the vampires at bay some, that was cool.

Talk about a cliff hanger ending.

I'm really looking forward to next week.

Great stuff. the thing I loved the most was how in-character the characters were. That was just amazingly fun.

George: "Who wants some of my chair!"

Well,

saw the finale, not too bad.

***Spoiler Alert***

Finally, some werewolf on vampire action. The only problem I had with the scene was when George's girlfriend bust in in the midst of his transformation. How Annie and Mitchel could have let her do that was beyond me. But of course I realize that had to happen for the story.

Anyways, Overall, I liked the series.

If I had one knit, it would be that I wish they had the special fx budget to match the intensity of the script.

can't wait for the next season.

Yeah, the finale was pretty good (overall). The season went by so fast - only 6 episodes. I'm not sure I like George's GF and that subplot (ie., what's on the horizon for her - will she stay and tell him or run off). Love that George finally got 'revenge' against all the vamps; was getting tired of Werewolves being portrayed as wimps. :) The ending was interesting --- what did that guy mean?

That guy set up the next season of course.

ALso, I seriously hope next season isn't 6 episodes. IMHO, the minimum number for a complete season is 10. In the States, a lot of seasons are actually past 20! Like Star Gate, 24, Angel, Buffy, etc.

*sigh*

I also hope they can increase their special fx budget. The werewolf scenes do feel circa 1980s. I love the storylines though.

This was a test. They have to get a feel for the success of it and unlike Hollywood, the Brits are a bit more conservative. Remember too, this is British television, it's a culture all of its own.

They don't need to change for us. We need to accept and adapt for them. Diversity my friend is a multi-faceted thing. :D

You have to remember that Being Human originally aired on BBC3 and steadily gained a following. It's normal for first seasons to have a small number of episodes when they're not sure how successful it's going to be. Now that the second season has been greenlighted (and will probably be longer than six episodes), the first season being rerun on BBC1 is a huge jump in terms of viewership etc. (like what happened with Torchwood).

And it's British TV, which means it's in a ballpark all its own. ;)

BBC America’s favorite housemates
Ever since Being Human premiered this summer on BBC America, we have been besieged with requests for the Season 1 DVD. We are happy to relay the news that the various rights issues have been resolved, and DVDs and Blu-rays are in the works, though probably not until mid 2010. In the meantime, why not catch up with woeful werewolf Russell Tovey's work in The History Boys and Little Dorrit? And sexy vampire Aiden Turner has recently stirred hearts and dropped trou frequently as the poet and painter Dante Gabriel Rosetti in the BBC miniseries Desperate Romantics, which we hope will reach these shores next year.

No word on when/if we can expect it here in the US, though. (Hell, BBC America ran the last Dr. Who specials within two weeks of their airing in the UK, and we get Jonathon Woss about a week late. They're an odd bird, though, and I understand the restrictions placed on them by the BBC, but there's only so many episodes of How Clean Is Your House?, Top Gear, and Gordon Ramsay's #$%ing Bat-Sh!t Crazy one can watch before contemplating chewing off one's arm.) :( We've only gotten word the DVD for the first series will be released "some time late 2010".

Okay okay.

For the record I do love British Sci-Fi because it is different than how we would do things (though I hardly get to watch any). I love Doctor Who and have just recently stumbled onto a show called Primeval which is sorta like Sliders.

I'm going to buy the DvD's because I'm in desperate need of a good sci-fi fix and Stargate Universe is not doing it for me :(

I read an interview somewhere about the US version. I'm glad I'm moving back to the UK, so I won't even be tempted to take a look. It sounds pretty dire.

I'm glad they're showing BH1 when they are, because we intend to be out of the US by the end of July. Hopefully I'll catch BH2 when BBC repeats it before BH3 is aired. Either that or via BBC on Demand.

Ah, that's a shame. You really need to see S2 before S3. There is a major story arc that will continue into the next series. I don't know if BBC will repeat it before S3 airs.

To go back to the point about S1 only being 6 eps long, there is a very good reason for that.

BBC 3 was a fairly new channel when the pilot for BH was made, and BH was one of about 6 pilots shown. BH was the only good one. The only other one I can remember was a kung-fu satire thingy that starred a girl in a pink wig. It was bad. Bad, bad, bad. Awful. And the BBC, in their infinite wisdom, decided to make a series of it. At which point a HUGE campaign started to get BH made instead. The BBC's message boards were swamped and it was all over DigitalSpy. It even made the newspapers here. And it went on for months....

Eventually the BBC caved in and made a series. But not wanting to risk too much, they just made the six. And it was a huge hit. And the rest is history......

SOOOO...anybody else see the trailer for the American Being Human? I dunno, I'm going to watch the show I spose but I'm awfully skeptical. The guy playing Mitchell-the-vampire-only-renamed-Aidan is done up to look awfully like an Edward Cullen clone (pale, sparkly, square-jawed, flat affect). Do not want!!

The ghosty girl looks alright. The werewolf, I dunno, I'm withholding judgement thus far. The show starts in the new year. For some strange reason the trailer calls it "A New Original Series...Only On SyFy". Interesting take on the word 'original' :D

Finally saw all of Season 2, season 3 starts on BBC3 in January. They've been showing some quick trailers on the blog. I can't wait.

The US version sounds dire. I remain to be convinced that US networks can take a British program and make it work. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

I saw a few pages of the US script, first episode, it made me throw up in my mouth a little.

The ghost girl in the US version bears a too-close-to-be-coincidental resemblance to Annie in the UK version, in my opinion.

Haven't decided yet whether I'm going to bother watching the US version. My 15-year-old flat out refuses to. For me, it'll probably depend on the time slot; if there's nothing else on that I want to watch at that time, I'll probably watch it just for something to do.

Kitty, my 12-year-old said the exact same thing about "original series". LOL

The only US rework of a British show I liked was... oh, dear... it was years ago. The premise was a police officer who got shot in the head and it affected his response to situations and conversation. for example, he'd laugh at the wrong thing, or blurt out what he was thinking at the worst moment.

The original British version was utterly grim and depressing. I quit when the wife of one of his colleagues (who had gotten pregnant but the colleague didn't want the baby and the marriage was on the rocks) had a difficult birth and ended up in a coma, and the baby died. (IIRC on details.) God, I wanted to slit my wrists after that ep.

However, the US version was the first time I saw Jeffrey Donovan in anything. He brought a touch of absurdity and black humor to the role and it made all the difference. I enjoyed watching it and have followed Donovan ever since.

Finally caught up with season two, just started watching this show a couple of weeks ago. Can't believe I hadn't seen it before either. Though I do live in the States.

I am really loving it, and can't wait for season three. So glad I don't have to wait until spring, I know somewhere I can download it (that is how I watched the first two seasons).

I have to admit I was curious, so I caught the pilot of the SyFy version. Meh. Not horrible, but it was definitely missing something. Calling the vamp Aidan annoyed me as well. And I agree that they made him look like an Edward Cullen-wannabe. Not my thing. The only thing I liked about him was they talk about how he gets blood from the blood bank. Never understood how the Mitchell and some of the others could completely give up blood. Never heard of a vamp that could do that before.

The chemistry between the characters wasn't as good. The dialogue was mostly crap. The werewolf was just a dork, and not in an endearing way like George. The ghost? She was ok. She is completely invisible to everyone, and non-corporeal. I never understood how Annie was so powerful to let others (sometimes) see her, and how she could touch things, make tea and such.

But even with this small things in the BBC version that I don't quite get, it is still far superior to the Americanized one. And yes, I can say that after only one ep.

Bring on Season 3!!

He's just turned 47, my mistake. His birthday's in December and now it's the new year I added an extra number to his age in error.

I still would though. :D

I fully expect him to emit sparkly spunk on some delicate virgin before season one is over. I do NOT like EC or EC wannabes. Bitches.

Sigh. I need my Mitchell fix.

BBC version rules and I can't wait,either.

LOL! Yep, I don't plan on watching anymore of it to find out. Twilight annoys me.

Now Mitchell, that is a vampire. Even when he tries to be good, he can still be very, very bad.

scarletpeaches
01-22-2011, 08:56 PM
I really don't see the point of a vampire trying to be good. If you can get away with the shit they can, why play by human rules?

Satori1977
01-22-2011, 09:01 PM
I have never understood it either. That is why I don't like how they apparently don't have to drink blood. Any other vamp I have seen on tv, movie, or read about, needs the blood to survive. So they have to do it, it is in their nature. Why fight it?

scarletpeaches
01-22-2011, 09:04 PM
And Mitchell telling the others not to drink makes him as much of a dictator as Herrick ever was. Worse, because at least Herrick told the truth about what he was.

Still, that's not to say I'd kick Mitchell out of bed for eating biscuits.

I wouldn't kick Mitchell out of bed for eating anything. Except kittens.

The gewd news is that we're about 24 hours from series three.

The bad news is that I shall miss it, I shall be on a train south. Nevertheless, I will of course set the video.
I can't miss Annie. Cold and dead she may be, but she's still lurvely.

BenPanced
01-22-2011, 10:48 PM
I never understood how Annie was so powerful to let others (sometimes) see her, and how she could touch things, make tea and such.
I think they've mentioned she's not quite in control of her abilities.
Still, that's not to say I'd kick Mitchell out of bed for eating biscuits.
Hell, you'd go out the night before and buy him his own case of Wagon Wheels*...

I've started a new thread with a spoiler warning so us lucky Brits can discuss it.

scarletpeaches

So now I have to pace myself to one episode a week, whereas with the DVDs it was 3-in-a-row if I wanted.

Bah!

But she obviously does have abilities that other ghosts do not. None of them can be seen, or physically touch anything.

I would pick up kittens from the shelter for Mitchell.

My GAWD,Aidan Turner is awesome in all his angsty goodness.

KITTY! Lordy me...

There is another thread for discussing the new season. This thread should be kept free of spoilers. Most of our American friends haven't seen it yet.

Kitty, be nice.

scarletpeaches
01-25-2011, 08:09 PM
Not really a spoiler. Mitchell saw Annie in the television in the last episode of series two, when they were all living in the Welsh cottage and Lucy came to stay over.

yeah I know. I was just helping everyone out by telling Kitty there's a spoiler thread.

There are some sluts up in here. Fooling with another woman's man with NO shame. Hussies.

AIDAN WUVS the caramel. He told me so because I watch BH wearing a tinfoil hat so I can hear his hidden messages to me.

I apologize,Miranda!

Didn't they establish that Annie's a poltergeist, not a ghost? That's why her moods influence the physical world.

That was from Hattie, so keep an eye out for that if you like Aidan Turner with a mockney accent, being very, very horny for an hour and a half.

Just watched "Hattie" on iPlayer.

This is you being hunted.

He doesn't change, does he? ;)

Still, I felt so sorry for John Le Mesurier. Been there, done that Hattie thing (only without the menage a trois!) - and it sucks. Never again.

scarletpeaches
01-26-2011, 01:13 AM
Le Mes definitely came out of it looking like a true gent. Superb acting, sitting on the bed crying, hearing them in the other room.

And I saw This is Your Life the other day; he really did say the line about it being a "jolly neat trick."

I wonder if Schofield was in the audience, as Hattie portrayed it?

Anne Lyle
01-26-2011, 01:24 AM
I guess we'll never know.

Did you notice that Aidan's Irish accent comes through more obviously when he does cockney than when he talks "posh" (as in Desperate Romantics)? I just hope he never masters a Scots accent, or I'll be doomed...

scarletpeaches
01-26-2011, 01:42 AM
Honey, if I hate even James Purefoy's shitty attempt at a Scottish accent, I don't even want to think about Le Turner trying it.

Anne Lyle
01-26-2011, 01:52 AM
What can I say? I fell in love with a Scots accent over the phone and ended up marrying him...
