Personally, I think he'd be a lot more believable if he didn't keep adding a trillion dollars of debt every month he's in office.

What an example our government sets.

Too bad he didn't figure that out BEFORE the quadzillion dollars that have been spent already. :D Now let's see if he gets serious about fixing it, or if it's just lip service.

Ah, but now it all becomes clear. He has a new agenda to push, so it's time to shift gears...even if it contradicts his earlier behavior.
“Most of what is driving us into debt is health care, so we have to drive down costs,” he said.

People, people, he inherited that deficit spending from the previous administration!
He didn't inherit all the money he's arranged to have spent since Jan 20.

True. However, he is also pissing away money that we dont have.
Look at the auto bailouts. What a joke. They are going to be bankrupt anyway and now they are closing dealers and may ship jobs overseas.
The bigger problem is no matter who is in government they throw money at problems and think later. Its all reactionary. Its tiresome.

Yeah, and don't you know it's all us Boomers who are driving health care costs up. I guess the government wants us all to die off so they don't have to pay for us...

Well it is a problem..or will be a problem. There are more of the boomers than there will be people working. I dunno whats going to happen, truthfully.

Yes, I agree, why didn't he learn this four months ago?
What was he thinking over the past few months? Perhaps something like this (perhaps passed down from previous Presidents and Congresses, though I admit this smart President caught on early): "The Government Printing Office and Treasury are like a time machine. We can borrow all the money we want from The Future..."

Federal budgets are set at least 6 months to a year prior to the fiscal year (which begins in October or November (can't remember which).
The spending which has occurred during these first nine or 10 months of the Obama administration was approved before he was elected. He'll have an effect on the next FY budget.
At least, that's how I remember it from my years as a 'government worker'.

Reading this forum title just jogged my memory ... Dana Carvey's impersonation of George H.W. Bush on Saturday Night Live. Remember "It's baaad, it's bad?" Here's a great clip, if you have the time:

Deficit spending is bad, and deficit spending is caused by high healthcare costs, and we should solve the cost of high healthcare by spending more money?
I think I'm dizzy...

Apparently it's now politically incorrect to point out flaws in logic, Matt. The gods government can do whatever they want, and we should bow down and be thankful and leave it at that.
Let us all now join hands, sing hosanna, and goose-step our way over the Rainbow Bridge to a glorious new post-economic, post-national, post-logical future.

Apparently it's now politically incorrect to point out flaws in logic, Matt. It might also be racist.
Or I'm just not smart enough to understand the nuances how spending a trillion dollars isn't bad if you cut $100 million.

That must be it. I never was smart enough to figure out that buying a house ten times my annual income and charging my credit cards to the max was a great idea, even though that was the drum being pounded by everybody. I guess I'm just gonna miss out on all the moolah from selling back into an ever-expanding housing market, so I can pay off my credit cards and actually own my iPod, Wii, and all the other worthless crap I bought on time payments at unbelievable interest rates.
Oh, snap.
I've got to rent that movie "Idiocracy." It's sounding less like entertainment and more like predictive science every day.
